A Healthy Penny Hardaway would’ve been better than JORDAN?

There actually was debate in the mid 90s if Penny Hardaway should be chosen to be a Top 50 all time player, but they ended up not putting him on the list due to his career being so young at the time

He was actually THAT good. But in the GOAT conversation, yeah... nah

I do believe Penny and Grant Hill's injuries paved the way, and opened the door for Kobe to be the "next Jordan"

Penny could do it all, but we just didn't see enough of him as that lead dog. I know Kobe put up numbers with Shaq, but not the big numbers until year 5 when he averaged 28ppg. Shaq left before Penny's 4th season, but that's when his injuries started.

Another reason Penny couldn't put up those big numbers is because Orlando had a great supporting cast with Nick Anderson and Dennis Scott both averaging over 15ppg. The Lakers didn't have that.

If you think you're lonely now, ohhh girl...
Man, Penny is my childhood idol. I saw breh drop 40 in back to back games against the Heat in the playoffs on one leg. I “seent” it :wow:.

I don’t know about GOAT, but he would easily be thought of as one of the greatest PG‘s of all-time. He legit played like he had a 6th sense.

"I definitely feel like at my pace I was going, I could have done some phenomenal things and been in the conversation of being the GOAT with Michael [Jordan], Kobe [Bryant], LeBron [James] and all those guys. It's just unfortunate that I got hurt."

This is what was said yet somehow the idiot t/s posts he said could have been better than jordan.

he played well in the playoffs while shaq was there. he didnt have the greatest regular season after shaq left but what really blew up the hype for him is had one of the best series ever all things considered pushing the heat to a deciding game in that 1997 first round. going up against a 61 win miami team with the no.1 defensive rating he got next to no help that series. derek strong had a solid series, but of the 5 other magic players who started at least one game, all of them shot less than 40% from the floor.

penny forced a 5th and deciding game first putting up 42 in game 3 only sitting for 10 seconds and making over half his team's shots and then in game 4 playing all 48 minutes putting up 41 in a win. he didnt have as masterful of a game 5 with 33 in an 8pt loss. in the 2nd and 3rd quarters of that game penny scored 18 points, the rest of his teammates during that span scored 15 points.

then the following season the injuries hit. possible goat conversation is probably a few steps too far but he had top 5 scoring guard potential.

Penny's my fav player ever, and I agree with his comment here. I definitely think he would've been in the convo. Good enough to surpass Jordan, Kobe? Yea, I don't know about that.

The one thing where he was kind of lacking was defense imo. And -related to that- he appeared to be a slightly less physical than the MJs, Kobes, etc. Both things he could've developped later on maybe. Other than that yeah he had a lot of tools to be very high on anyone's list. There's a reason almost everyone has him as one of the biggest "what ifs" in basketball.
