Not better than Mike but if he had stayed healthy and no microfacture in 97 then what we saw when he switched to the 2 could have been a sign of things.

Penny got hurt against Detroit in the playoffs, continued to play through the injury for two more series... then he played that whole Summer and the knee never got better. Then he had surgery. Who knows what damage was done by the time he had the surgery.

That was the beginning of the end for him. He ended up having 6 surgeries on that knee

I was wondering because dude was my GOAT. I legit patterned my game after his and everything. Watched every Magic game, since moving here from NY in 89. Now, I could be wrong, but I could've sworn ht finished top 5-10'ish in DPOY awards multiple times in his career. Problem was, he was up against dudes like Gary Payton, David Robinson and Hakeem.

I always remember everyone praising his versatility on D. Maybe its my inner fanboy coming out, but that's what I remember.

The again.. I'm :old: so ...

Love Penny but :mjlol:

Penny's first five years of his career he averaged 19.5 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 6.5 apg, 1.9 steals, 48.1% fgp

Jordan's first five years of his career he averaged 32.6 ppg, 6.2 rpg, 5.9 apg, 2.9 steals, 51.3% fgp
I agree with the premise of your comment.. but did Jordan have a top 3/5 center of all time that he had to feed the rock to?

Lol all good I'm a fanboy too he was my man those couple of years. He stayed getting steals but I don't remember him as a great overall defensive player, but that's just off of what I remember. Not saying he was BAD defensively, just that he didnt stand out on that side of the game.
