He's proven to be better than them though, Willy has looked like utter shyt to be frank, maybe he came into training camp thinking he had the starting spot all sewn up and didn't put in the work.
This.

I genuinely believe Hornacek saw some shyt during training camp that foreshadowed what we are seeing.

I LOVE Willy and I was a big supporter of his but Horn has been really doing allot with a little and I have no reason to believe he just shyt on Willy for no reason.

That being said...I still believe Hernangomez can be better than Kanter. He has the talent and size... He doesn't have the mind state.

That’s what I’m saying, why are we acting like Kanter has been shyt this whole time. He’s played hard, put effort on defense and put up good numbers for a team that’s been winning. He’s done everything we expected Willy to do. We have nothing to assume but that he’s outplayed Willy in Trainig Camp.

I don't think he came into training camp unprepared because he was in the FIBA tournament, but I do agree that Kanter has proven better. I think Willy looks like he's got a combination of rhythm and mental struggles right now. When he locked in the fourth quarter last night, he showed flashes of the guy we were expecting. Kanter's earned my respect, but I think the "Willy out of shape" stuff is hitting a good young player for something that there wasn't much evidence of at all. The lost look doesn't happen until Willy's getting spot minutes once every few games in the regular season.

Enes Kanter starting over Willy and KOQ within a handful of days in any capacity is a sign of preferential treatment before training camp had a chance to even make a dent.
Starting in pre season doesnt matter lol
Whether it's first game or last game. Kanter probably started just so they could see what he got. Doug and oquinn started in games as well. It doesn't mean anything.
Willy and Doug came here to play off the bench, Willy lost his spot. Simple
Knicks were talkin bout building around Willy all summa lol
Kanter had no advantage

And then they gave him virtually no developmental time and he's coming in looking worse than when the preseason started. Jump into the thread around page 30 for a reminder of what Kanter was looking like early, dude got the opportunity to play through errors that our other bigs didn't flat out. This ish reminds me so much of Lance's first full year it's not even funny.

Willy did have a disadvantage. We traded for Enes Kanter an older, more polished version of Willy, a former top 5 pick, making $17M for the next couple years, the center piece of the Carmelo Anthony trade.

Willy came back leaner, slightly taller, and tatted :hubie:, he played well in the Euro tournament, he was active all summer.

It’s pure B.S. that he has to outplay a 25 year old Kanter to get minutes. Kanter is supposed to be better. Willy is getting Jah’d.

if thats the case, den we dont need willy anymore:yeshrug:
what does willy do better on the floor den kanter?
kanter himself isnt even a modern day 4 but he makes it work
willy plays like its in the 1980s

again, this goes back to my post about knick fans being attached to players who never accomplished nothing lol
willy had some solid games in garbage time of a 32 win season
if we have a better version of him, then he can go

IF we're pushing for the postseason, keep Kanter and see how far he takes you. But Willy is 23 making 1.5 mil for the next couple seasons and a sophomore . Kanter is 25 in his 6th year making 17 million this year with an option. That means his trade value is shaky off the option year and if he keeps this up, he's liable to opt out and demand similar salary long term. I'm sweating that payday Kanter might get more than anything. He's a bench big on a good team, not a starter. He is growing into the starting role here, but I'm not convinced yet. Not for the potential cap hit, with a player who has a similar skillset for less than 1/8 the cost and has more upside on the bench. Whether it works out and Willy becomes a legitimate starter or we end up in a better draft position, I'm good with that over being forced to commit even more money to a bigman while we're not even clearly an 8th seed yet.

Willy is a better passer, better midrange with potential to step out and hit threes.

He’s younger and over $15M cheaper. You can’t be serious.
