If Willy's talent demanded a starting position, I believe he would be a starter.

Is it possible that the Knicks requested Kanter in the trade because they viewed him as a better player?

I think Jeff may have lobbied. He talked after a game recently about how he had worked with Kanter in Utah and was excited to get him. That would explain why in just a few days, Kanter skipped a line of three eligible C's and got immediate starter time. Willy earned the opportunity through his play last season and he put quality minutes in with Spain this offseason. I think he should have gotten a real chance to take the starting spot and Kanter should have had to earn it, but at this point Kanter has earned his spot and Willy's back where he started last season. Behind two guys on the depth chart and needing to find ways to be an instant impact player with guys he hasn't played minutes with in a good chunk of time.

Early draft picks (if we stay in the late lottery/late pick range)

Jarred Vanderbilt a left handed 6'9 point forward who can defend and rebound well. He just needs to learn to shoot

Randle fits this team better than Willy does right now. (Unless you plan on moving Kanter). So I’d think about it. I’d want a pick too tho.

Kanter was here for something like 5 days and immediately got a start. Willy didn't play himself to the bench, but he definitely didn't respond to it well. Kanter meanwhile has taken the opportunity and run with it, so hard to criticize in retrospect.
Nah
Willy was considered the starter all summer and was considered the favourite to start at the beginning of training camp
He got thoroughly out played in training camp and lost his spot
Remember, kanter was comin off the bench in okc already, so him coming off the bench wasnt gonna be a big deal

Willy looks fat and slow

Nah, Kanter literally wasn't here a week (this is not hyperbole this is actually how long he had been here) and got the very first start of preseason over both Willy and KOQ. There's no explanation for him starting over both those guys in less than a week and not enough practice for him to take that spot from them after they both spent last season putting in work. I acknowledge that Kanter has earned his spot now, but he didn't EARN the very first preseason start or his place starting over everybody from the jump. KOQ was even outplaying Kanter early in the regular season. Does Kanter deserve to start? Yes. But did he earn his initial role through a fair competition, hell no. He didn't undo Willy and KOQ's tenures in under 7 days.

Plus Willy's preseason Per numbers scaled out to a double double in starter time; so it's also a bit of gas that he was bad in preseason. He played uneven minutes in multiple different line-ups but was doing his numbers. His dropoff came after being benched a while.

Now who else wanna fukk with Hollywood Court?
Enes Kanter starting over Willy and KOQ within a handful of days in any capacity is a sign of preferential treatment before training camp had a chance to even make a dent.

He's proven to be better than them though, Willy has looked like utter shyt to be frank, maybe he came into training camp thinking he had the starting spot all sewn up and didn't put in the work.

that, or he's just out of it because he knows he's not getting much burn. he has definitely looked like pure trash in the minutes he's gotten, and hasn't deserved any extra.

kanter is already earning an extension with his grittiness in the paint and his shyt talking...fukk that. you're not gonna get that from KP. the noah/rose acquisitions last year proving to be even more pointless, but fukk it. phil did some good here, but just wish noah wasn't signed to that deal.
