I didn't say everyone in Latin America is dirt poor. Obviously, I don't think that, if the reason I don't like visiting these countries is because the majority of people who live there are exploited by wealthy, U.S. backed elites. You need to understand the history of these countries, how capital has flowed into them, who commands that money, and the fact that very little of it sees the hands of the people, the majority of whom are poor. My problem with a lot of black people who think shyt is sweet and want to travel to these exotic places is that most of them are not aware of what the U.S. has done to suppress economic reforms that would improve the quality of life for their citizens. No country - save for Canada, primarily because it's majority white - in the Western hemisphere is allowed to break free from the neoliberal policy orchestrated in Washington to serve the interests of those who control capital. Read some Noam Chomsky when you have some time. Perhaps, then, you will understand my perspective. The only country in the Caribbean that I would visit is Cuba.
