They had a study that said if minimum wage kept up with inflation, it'd be around $20. Now if you offer the average man a $20 job today, he'd say that was a nice paying job unless he lived in some super expensive city like New York. In reality, that's what minimum wage WAS. Inflation is greatly outpacing salary increases, and you couple that with companies shipping jobs overseas and making more applicants compete for less jobs, you have wage depression on the other end. Is it any surprise that people are living paycheck to paycheck when wages are going down and yet the cost of living is steadily increasing?

Unrelated...but how is your quest into the IT world coming? Haven't seen you in the thread in a while...

Thanks for asking. I'm still honing my HTML/CSS and Javascript skills. They're not really up to the level where I can get paid for them, but I have a solid understanding of things now. I would say in about a year I'll be able to do something commercial with them. How is the blog you were making going?

That's what up. With the blog, it simply fell out of the totem pole of things of importance to me. I underestimated how much extra work it was writing in-depth content and then writing test programs that was simple enough for beginners to understand while at the same time still being 'real-world' enough that I wouldn't be teaching bad habits. I ultimately decided that their was better blogs out that had already focused on that stuff.

because again, it is not the job of a school to teach you how to budget

it is the job of your family. the. end.

Some people came from families where the concept of wealth is never discussed. They intentionally suppress the info to keep people worked and under-thinking

I don't think abortion is the answer, self-control is. I feel there is a direct correlation to people that lack self-control with those that have a lot of children and/or have poor money management skills.
It takes a level of self control to spend your money wisely.

real talk, everyone in this society should go through a psychological test before they have kids. If people not mentally right, neuter them like a dog.

Who writes the test? Who determines what is mentally right?

Its like this: Everyone had the right to ONE child if they refuse to take the test. If they fukk up raising the kid right (misbehavior, lack of manners), the state must take them away from their parents and the parents get neutered (tubes tied/ vasectomy) to prevent any more kids from coming to this world. It will save the government a lot of money on welfare and it will save schools from burdensome children.

welfare isn't the thing that we need to cut to save money... that shyt helps other situations that are caused by things society never addresses.
Regardless, it's peanuts on the budget compared to less desirable gov spending habits.

And the government, politicians, religious figures, and scientist aren't to be trusted when it comes to telling people how to live their lives.... None are qualified to conduct the test. The person who is most qualified is the individual.. some people are idiots, others make mistakes... but it's up to the individual to ruin their own life. Some of the most productive and successful people have came from poverty and mistakes anyway... so ....

Some people came from families where the concept of wealth is never discussed.

So whose fault is that

They intentionally suppress the info to keep people worked and under-thinking

:stopitslime: ur talkn to the son of an african immigrant and rural south carolinian. get this shyt out of here.

at some point, someone in here is gonna admit teaching money management skills is not the job of public schools. at some point, someone in here is gonna admit that their parents failed to provide them with the proper perspective. Saving is as much about number crunching as it is about having the right mentality.

Either way…..

Everyone has to deal with debt. When we try to play the blame game about this paycheck to paycheck thing, we're really talking about what individuals deem "disposable" income.

I want to see these statistics broken out by marital status, age and (i'm scared to say it) race/ethnicity.

So what's your solution to surviving on $28k per year? Live on your own, above your means, get in debt, paycheck to paycheck? Yeah that's make way more sense than sharing a house with other people. Live on your own and get government subsidies or share a house with 5 other people making $28k and have money to save? It's a no brainer to me.

28k aint no money to live on.

Yes, they should get gov assistances and the assistance should be plentiful

making 28k you will never save enough money where it will matter even living with 5 other people

Let's say everyone bringing in $1600 a month. That's $8000 a month. You can't tell me you can't make that work for 5 people.
One rent/mortgage
One Utility Bill
One Food Bill
Not five different ones.
