Garcia strikes me a guy who doesn’t wanna spend his whole life boxing . He’s supremely talented but I don’t see the passion in him for boxing like that. I could see him retiring if he takes an L to Spence.
You are correct.
Its not really a secret though. The guy is desperate for PPV/big money fights and has been trying to fast track that process, which is why he's doing all of this weight class hopping.
If you really take your career seriously, we all know the "right" way to do it is just to jump in that weight class and get acclimated to it. Andre Ward did not go straight to Kovalev. He let himself get acclimated to 175.
At the same time, I guess I can't blame Garcia. When he first arrived to 135, he clearly said I would love to unify, BUT i will not allow the politics of boxing hold me back. He's trying to make things happen. Boxing is such a slow moving sport. It takes 4 fukking years just to unify a damn division. We probably won't get an undisputed @ 147 until 2021 or some shyt. It's a joke. So instead of going to 147, and take a damn year or two to get acclimated to the weight, he's just gonna do it in a few months.
He won't retire after he loses to Spence, because the Loma fight is right there.
I think the Spence fight is a personal goal of his. It makes sense to fight Spence and then Loma as opposed to vice versa. If he were to lose to Loma, then you can't really make a Spence-Garcia fight. Doing it this way, the Loma fight is still there. I think taking this path, he sort of acknowledges Loma is a huge threat.
