I know they want to crown Ibushi, much better crowd support against Jay than Naito...but I've had enough of the imaginary ceiling.

It's Nakamura all over again.

Also, they should disband Bullet Club entirely. Mass shootings really make it inappropriate to wear their stuff, and since the U.S. averages one a day, just blow the stable up in spectacular fashion.

Eh, at least Nakamura had a legit run as the top guy in the company for 4-5 years. Naito didn't even have that :dead:

BC should be disbanded because there's no point to it, y'alls country being fukked up in the head shouldn't dictate what a Japanese stable does though :manny:

Yeah, I can't agree with disbanding BC because of what disaffected white men do as much as I can't agree with not releasing movies or selling video games for the same reason. Take care of the root causes of the tragedies, not some fiction with a mild resemblance to said tragedies.

With all that said, Bullet Club is just a stable now. One could argue that when AJ Styles left and The Elite ascended, the Bullet Club lost its purpose, but now they really don't seem to have a point. They could do this Jay White push without the stable behind him.

On the subject of Naito...on a certain level I kind of get Gedo's logic. Naito will be 37 this year, he probably has neck problems and definitely has knee problems, and he's more of the present and the past than he is the future. You might as well use him to get new stars over. But they're starting to run into the same issues that WWE ran into with Bryan a few years ago: He's a guy who people desperately want to have a real run at the top that never got that run. And so they're not really going to let that go, especially when you're using him to get other guys over. White probably isn't going anywhere, so it wouldn't hurt to let Naito have his time then let White beat him, but history shows that Gedo doesn't necessarily think like that (also, this doesn't take Ibushi into account, which adds a whole other dimension to this dilemma).

I also wonder whether Gedo isn't extremely aware of his aging roster and trying to get in front of that a bit as well. Tanahashi will 43 this year and moves like a rusted over panzer tank. Naito will be 37. IBUSHI will be 37. Goto's 40. As a matter of fact, other than Okada, I don't think they have a single main eventer under 35 other than Jay White, and including Okada White's the only one under 30. Elevating White might be his way of tiding things over for a bit until guys like Shota Umino are ready for the main event.

With all that said...I haven't watched the event yet (I've been packing my apartment up all week), but NJPW fans online seemed PISSED about this. Like, this was the first time I've seen a significant portion of NJPW fans really going after Gedo for his booking decisions as opposed to simply enjoying the matches then ruminating briefly on the booking. I don't really know how the reception to the White push has been in Japan (we'll probably see whether than 9,800 number was because people really wanted to see Naito take it, or whether White may be able to sustain that with another opponent in due time), but I think that's actually fairly significant.

Interesting times in NJPW indeed...

Ishii is by far the MVP this year I think, though Shingo makes a strong case too. Ibushi didn't really hit the heights, KENTA fukked him up first night :beli: Tana had a decent little story going, he has to change something after this, what will it be :lupe: Naito when he was on was excellent, the Shingo match was one of the best. Moxley faded hard but showed out in the Ishii match. Juice isn't getting to the next level with me. Fale as technical wizard was amusing. ZSJ and his promos backstage :dead: Goto :russ:

Shingo/Ishii is my match of the tournament by a fair amount.

I don't think age is an issue. Kota is 37 just like Naito and dude still moves around like he's 7 years younger.

Okada/Ibushi/Naito can hold the fort for the next 2-3 years, which is when Shota should be getting his big push. And then you have Yoshida and Narita ready to take the next step by that time too. You add to that the contributions of people like Omega, Moxley and whoever else gets a New Japan run in the near future and they have it pretty much covered. They also have Sanada and Shingo (36, but like Kota, still moving like his younger self) as a safety valves if people get injured.

I don't think the "outrage" over Naito will mean much to be honest. They have enough stars to draw in Japan regardless of how they book Naito, and whatever bytching online by us westerners means jackshyt to their business to be honest (and people will watch anyway because they love the quality of the matches) :pachaha:

I don't disagree with any of this (except maybe Narita being able to make heavyweight), I'm just trying to contemplate the thought processes of Gedo and the American fanbase. And I'd argue that US fan reactions may matter more than they want to admit if they're serious about getting into the American market. Which they may not be, judging by some of their decision making, but it is a consideration.

The US market thing will never succeed until they get their shyt together when it comes to promoting.

But to be honest, I still cling to Meji's and Kidani's first statements about their US plans, which was doing small stuff meant to help the L.A dojo, and whatever big show they did was a special event/bonus instead of a legit expansion.

He low key the MVP of this G1
I won’t say he’s had the best matches, but as far as entertainment I don’t think it’s close:mjlol:

Watching this Ishii vs Taichi, I can’t front. At first I thought he was garbage coming into this G1. But dude is solid as fukk and been in some really good matches

Taichi is low key pretty good, as long as he's going against someone else that's good.

Besides, his entrance music is piff, and he's clearly the best singer in the grapple game. :wow:

Falling behind quite a bit. Just finished Okada vs Evil. Looks like I gotta catch up on a few shows plus I got summerslam tonight. Gonna see if I squeeze in part of the next B block show before that and then finish the rest tomorrow at work.
