I feel you and maybe I’m missing something here due to (due to time) I haven’t really been keeping up with NJPW other than G1 and WK.

I don’t mind JW being the top Gaijin, but me personally. I don’t see him as the 1B you’re referring to and I will admit maybe it’s because of the gap of me watching the shows.

Based off the G1, it feels like (and I can’t even pick a 1B) the top guys after Okada are Tanahashi, Ibushi, Naito, Ishii, and Sanada.

Like I don’t know who but anyone of them seems more like they are and have been the 1B guy.

So that’s another reason why to me JW don’t really feel forced or pushed, he had his reign, it ended and it seems like maybe he’s still in contention but so are these other guys and they feel highlighted more. I guess I need to follow more closely what happens after G1

Oh yeah, I can totally see where you are coming from. People just reaaally hated his push towards his title win and reign, as short as it was :heh:

My thing with Goto isn't that I think he should get a big push, it's that it is impossible to give even the slightest of shyts about anything involving him due to how he's been booked for years now. He desperately needs to be in a smaller company where he can be a big dog and be taken seriously for a while. He's interchangeable with Yoshi Hashi for complete irrelevance in NJ.

As for Jay White, intentionally booking him to get X-Pac heat because that's the only way you could get him any heat at all is not good for anyone.

Let's not go THAT far, breh :whoa:

You watch a Goto match, and you think he's going to lose because Gedo must hate him for some reason.

You watch a Yoshi-Hashi match, and you wonder how his opponent ended up drawing the short straw that night z because that match won't mean shyt.

Yoshi-Hashi is somehow only slightly above Henare in relevance, and Henare is essentially the longest tenured young lion maybe ever.

If Yoshi-Hashi and Henare had a singles match against each other, it would have to end in a draw simply because it's next to impossible for either of them to win a match outside of tags/young lion pummelings.

Goto is bad as far as booking goes, but not THAT bad.

We are just going to ignore that they could've pushed Juice as their top gaijin? Let's be real, Juice might not be a top star, he was consistently putting in good work and the crowd loved him. Dude was a legit babyface in a company where most faces have a mean streak or sometimes are tempted into heel tactics. I think they left some money on the table there, especially because Juice also serves as one of the ultimate FU's to WWE.

Oh damn! I did forget about Juice. Yea he could be the top babyface Gaijin...... not sure if he HW champ ready and should be beating Okada, Naito, Ibushi but I did like his reign as US Champ and I did get to see him live when they came to Charlotte. Dude was over and is a star.

I couldn’t be mad at him and JW as the 2 top Gaijins (heel and face).

Another one I forget is Lance Archer, matter fact I think Juice or Lance probably need to be the next 2 US champs

I understand why White is being pushed. They need an English speaking guy from the dojo for their expansion and the only other option is Henare who is already Yoshi-Hashi status.

I don't know but this is the most I have enjoyed Jay White pause :dame: , dude is legit having fun out there and it makes dudes furious. He reminds me of a young :hhh: more I think of it.

Yeah, young HHH is the most common and accurate description of him tbh :ehh:

Jay White is the Matt Taven of NJPW

:picard: Gahdamn, we didn't have to go there did we?

Just about caught up with the G1 matches I want to see (only have Ibushi/Tanahashi and Naito/Takagi left) and...yeah. Kinda underwhelming roughly 65-70% of the way through. Not necessarily disappointing, since there's a lot of fun stuff happening in each block and I can avoid everything I don't want to watch fairly easily (SANADA matches, Jay White matches, Ospreay matches, etc.), but there still hasn't been that real cracker of a match yet. The top matches so far have been KENTA/Ibushi, Okada/Tanahashi, KENTA/Tanahashi, and Moxley/Ishii (maybe throw something like Moxley/Takagi in there as well) and none of those are in any way, shape, or form blowing anyone's minds despite their quality. Maybe Naito/Takagi gets there given the hype it's gotten, but there hasn't been anything must see as of right now for me.

Ok, Naito/Shingo was great. Still not quite there as one of the G1 classics we seem to get at least once a year these days, but I get the feeling that this might actually improve with repeat viewings. Naito really made Shingo look great by having him take the advantage in almost all their head-to-head clashes, as well as being able to take control with a single power move at any point in the match. Naito would either have to string moves together, bait Shingo, or come up with an inventive counter in order to gain control of the match. They probably could have gone 30+ minutes and I wouldn't have minded too much, despite not thinking it was this incredible match on first viewing.

Really good stuff here, definitely in my G1 top 5 this year (so far).
