"One of the more divisive topics in this year’s report involved digital and physical game releases. Nielsen asked players over the age of 13 how much time they spent playing games per week and how much money they would typically spend a month on games, then split those answers according to primary platform and if they preferred digital or physical games.

Overall, 66 percent of console users preferred physical games, compared to just 29 percent of PC players. Meanwhile, only 34 percent would rather pick up a digital game on console while a whopping 71 of PC users prefer digital copies over physical. "

Analyst: 66% of console players still prefer physical games over digital

I'm definitely not in that 66% this generation. Gameshare as well as Gold/PSN sharing has made things too convenient for me to go back. And this coming from someone who was nothing but physical all the previous generations.

That top row on the left is literally the only physical games I have for this current gen not including the two Switch games I have. Only having to buy one copy for both me and my lil bro makes going digital worth it for me.

It just grinds my gears that they are essentially repeating the same statistic here in two sequential sentences...

its all fun and games until the dev loses a license and you can no longer play your game or re download it.

I had smash tv on the 360, LOVED that game since the snes, went to go play it again, BOOM shyt is gone... why? because the license expired and they could no longer allow people to download it, including people whom of which already owned it.

That's legit fukked up, but to be fair that does seem to be a rare occurrence. All those Marvel games like Marvel Vs Capcom and the spiderman games got taken down but you can still download them today if you own it. I remember hearing about the smash tv situation and that whole situation was a weird mess.

Digital is definently the future. The PC market has been all digital for a long while now. The console market will eventually be the same. Personally, I like physical for my consoles. I don't mind the all digital "steam" era of PC gaming though. There is a benefit to having everything digital.
