I've arrived at the dreaded "C" word in my current role

Comfortable

The challenge really isn't there anymore. After the roller coaster and intensity of work I had all of Q4 2018 and Q1 2019, I've kind of seen the role from end to end. Throw in the promotion and its all about gravy.

I just need these recruiters to start hitting me back up. Gotta get back into that interviewing mode again.

:russ: The bolded is the truth. I'm hunting but when I get enough time to do some leg work I get side tracked by something else. It also doesn't help that my commuting logistics are straight basura.

Any of y'all heard about the '996' work schedule in China? Workers for tech firms work 9am-9pm, 6 days a week. Jack Ma, founder of Alibaba apparently has endorsed this take on it. In his words, "I personally think that 996 is a huge blessing," he said. "How do you achieve the success you want without paying extra effort and time?"

He further went on saying: "If you join Alibaba, you should get ready to work 12 hours a day. Otherwise why did you come to Alibaba? We don’t need those who comfortably work eight hours,

Even Elon Musk has been an advocate for grinding out long hours. He said when trying to launch of his Tesla models, he was grinding nearly 120 hours a week. He said no one ever changed the world by working 40 hours. My take on long hours have always been this: There's nothing wrong working 100 hr work weeks, but you have to have direction/equity in the work you're doing. If you plan on getting into Hedge Funding or Private Equity in your career, then you're gonna need to pull those 100 hr work weeks as an investment banker. If you want to start up your own logistics company but want to gain industry knowledge by working for Amazon then so be it. You know you'll be grinding at Amazon to get the skillset to springboard you forward. If you're an entrepreneur then that goes without saying. Some pretty cool articles below.

I don't agree with working more than 8 hours. For me, if I'm happy and having a good time, you're going to get a solid 8 hours a day, and 40 hours a week out of me. My 8 hour output is often equivalent to 14-16 hours of those around me. I have a coworker that's been on the same task for over a month - actually this is probably week 10. I told him exactly what he needs to do, gave him a code example of how I accomplished a similar goal, but here we are. When you want me to start giving you extra time you're going to get less out of me since I stretch that work over the longer period of time. On top of that, I'm more productive in the morning so you're SOL after about 11.

I have a role pending for a Qlik developer and I'm pretty excited for it. It seems like it will incorporate the things I'm learning in my masters program with actual work and that would be stellar! No more having to create mock scenarios, I can actually use projects I've worked on as inspiration for my assignments. It's remote too and they seem to be heavy on using analytics in their organization, which aligns with my goals overall. I should hear something more next week, but I definitely can't say in this government contract. The work culture is so bad!
