Man, one of my senior managers left the company...or was forced out. I'm not sure yet. This is a few months after a merger. Not sure what to think. I liked him too.

This is quite common with M&As. Employees at the acquired company may or may not be let go. Happened to my dad back in 2008. His company got acquired and his entire department was let go as they were deemed surplus to the vision of the new company.

Good rule of thumb is when your manager is pushed out, it's a good time to start looking. Especially if your manager is only one or two level above you.

Happened to me last year. My manger was let go, but he was like 5-6 levels ahead of me. I had mentioned to one of my coworkers about possibly dipping. Somehow word got to a member in the C-suite. C-suite member called me to his office on some "I hope you don't plan on quitting on us". Lol, I was shook for moment.

My direct manager has asked me a few times where do I see myself with the company and pushes me to do opportunities that may help me with growth. I think personally my bosses' ex-military background we are held at a higher standard than other groups. I do more of an operations role and I know some of our performance review goals are above average compared to the rest of the teams.

From what I heard he 'left the company and is pursuing other opportunities'. I do want to ask my direct boss about this. The manager that left was about two levels above me but as far as I know after the Merger/Acquisition there hasn't been any reduction in force AFAIK and I'm on the higher end of performance at the moment.

See, with M&A people don't know there'll be layoffs. They just find out. You come in Monday morning an they tell you your last day is Friday. This is corporate, do not ever be caught lacking my G. If my company got bought out, best believe the next day I'm using all my vacation time in one go and interviewing my ass off.

Side note: How do y'all interview for new positions while in your current role without it being too obvious. I've been thinking about trying to "stack" all interviews into one week and then taking PTO during that week to knock things out.

You're right bruh. You are the last to know. All I can do is rely on my performance. I've been working on getting a Kubernetes Certification. I have extra motivation to get it now.

Current roles I haven't done that as successfully. Usually they were phone based interviews and I'd have a second interview or something. Good question actually.

Phone interviews are pretty easy to do. Just have them during lunch. It's the in person that's very tricky.

Just revised my resume to incorporate my promotion:ahh:. I was told I'd be promoted in February even though the promotion wouldn't take effect until March. Still put start my date as Feb 2019 :sas2:

Quantified the operational improvements I've made to the team :whew:

Put dollar signs on any and every initiative I've been involved in :myman:

I still got some college internship experience though :ld:
One of the internships was in Cambodia :ehh:
The other was with a company that invested over $800 million of PE (private equity) money into green energy :jawalrus:

Expanded my skills section as well to include some of the courses I've been taking online :lawd:

Ready to hit them applications full force :blessed:

You have 18 months to come up on $15-20k from side/hustle income. How do you do that with a corporate 9-6?

18 months is too long ... shorten it to 2 weeks.

  • Build a sales team using this method here
  • Book teleconference appointments
  • Record a pre-recorded presentation
  • Send your prospects testimonials from whoever you're outsourcing the work to
  • Play the pre-recorded message and have your team wait by to take orders

You'll clear a lot more than $20k and you can flex on the gram about your special secret
method which made you 20k in 2 weeks and sell some bullsh!t course on it for $500-2000 a pop
