Ha one good thing about LinkedIn is that it tells the number of applicants who have applied for the role that's about it. When I see 200 applicants already applied, I don't even bother

I feel like the only way you get hired by applying online is if you're overqualified for the position or have brand name companies on your resume/CV and even then it's a crap shoot.

I really dislike those days where there's no pressing work and you're still in the office.

I'm mentally checked out this week. Need the weekend to come so I can regroup. Been helping the fam with some house turnover work and I haven't had time to do my personal career stuff.

Job search or work on your skills

That's what I've been doing. Just got off a call with a VP at a company I'm looking at. About to apply to a few roles at the moment.

Got some good advice from a dude in our Corp Dev team about career growth. He said focus on consulting and not rush my move back to Nigeria

I agree with him on the former...not sure about the latter quite yet.

Going through background check for my new job now one thing i will definitely remember to do at future workplaces is to make sure i get a written letter sent in a email from HR verifying my employment date and title at the job on the last day this is to make sure i dont have to run around chasing people for references during a background check

I’ve been on so many interviews that I’ve lost count. I haven’t had any issues with passing the personality or hr parts but the technical questions not so much :francis:

In fact, that’s the reoccurring theme, I have a lot of technologies list in my resume that I may not have production experience in but I have labbed and have a general understanding...I know that I have to take the time and study more but in the meantime I know that the marathon has gotta continue :manny:

I’ve got a job already so it’s the best time to find another

If you're not technical, then take them out of your resume. Add more "advanced business" skills that could lean you more into Business Analyst jobs working on technical projects. Things like streamlining processes, documentation, gathering requirements or being the bridge between technical and non technical teams. It's ok if you understand technical applications, but no hands on and looking to gain some. It's NOT ok to lie about your experience with them because you'll be looking dumb in the interviews. Now, if you want to add ONE technology that's hot and learn that one, that's cool, but don't spread yourself thin.

My advice would be to highlight more business related skills and do a broad job search for those. Titles with "analyst" or "coordinator" are good. Find one technology, actually learn it, and do more specific searches using a keyword like "junior developer" along with the actual technology.

Thanks for the heads up. I think I have to go the traditional route of networking.

Only thing worth it.

By the way, didn't you work in Nigeria at some point in time? I think I got into a discussion with you about 'The Place' in Lekki and you said it was overrun by ladies of the night :pachaha:

Problem is that it’s a technical role to where in my opinion the tech stacks are interchangeable and it’s rare that everyone will know everything (Devops). I have basic working knowledge of these tools but can’t get any real experience until I can land an actual role in the field

If I didn’t exaggerate, I probably wouldn’t get nearly the amount of call backs that I get :snoop:

I feel you, but getting call backs and not landing the job is a waste of everyone's time. It also makes you look bad when your resume is saying one level, but you're failing the technical portion. Have you tried searching for Jr or Associate. Dev Ops?. It's expected in those roles to have less experience.

LOL Yea never will entertain a woman even talking at a Lagos/Abuja social setting. There is an assumption I should pay for even conversation when I go to Nigeria
