They expose the story immediately after it happens? :russ:

The markkks are truly in the front office

In all fairness
They exposed the business the moment they signed Allie after she just got her throat slit and died in TNA:mjgrin:

Also, I once saw Vince die in a horrible car explosion but then come back immediately next show:skip:

After the awful pre-show (only the opener tag match was good) it was a solid main card. No match was higher than 3.5/5 to me, but no match was truly bad either.

It's just such a shame that Omega and the Bucks are such lame indy goofs. Cody might do dumb spots for indy cred but at least he seems to take wrestling seriously and bases his matches around psychology. Omega and the Bucks are just corny dudes with embarrassing lame meme humor.

They really need to sort out the direction of AEW by the time they hit TV because there is no consistent presentation to their trashy indy shyt, spot fests, comedy matches and competition-based sports wrestling.

There was a clear distinction between the pre-show, the main card and the unsanctioned match though.

Is every Young Bucks match just high spots and superkicks? If so, I ain't gonna be able to tolerate that for long. I enjoy tag team wrestling and I'm not trying to see these dudes do the same shyt week after week.

They had a couple matches in New Japan where they had to work differently. But mostly yes that's their style. I find myself liking their opponents like the Lucha Bros more

That's disappointing. I wanted to give them a chance but I don't like all these high spots they do and false finishes. Superkicks I can deal with because I'm an Usos stan. Lucha Bros definitely seem like a dope ass team. I haven't seen any type of wrestling outside of WWE until recently and with how bad the product is I'm starting to give other feds a chance.

Why are so many people online grading this show like it's a PPV? It was a free show in the US and heavily discounted internationally.

It was more like a Clash of the Champions or one of those 3 hour RAW specials that used to run when WWE first came back to USA.

Officially in the cautious about the company side of things. Lotta dumb shyt that makes me think they might not know what they're doing after all.

Such as: Building Nyla Rose as the dominant force of the women's division only to have her thunder stolen by Awesome Kong at the first show, and getting pinned by a woman 150 pounds smaller than her on this one.

Cody/Darby should have definitely been 15 minute time limit or even 10. 20 was too long because it meant going too slow and stalling, when Darby's whole thing is death bumps and the will to never give up. Plus Cody just isn't the kind of guy to be the big bruiser smashing a dude to pieces and I'm not sure he's actually ever been in that role before. It worked against the story and point of the match, which I actually did like and I think it did a good job to put Darby on the map for AEW as a young guy you should get behind. But that was immediately overshadowed by Tye fukking Dillinger doing an unprotected chair shot in 2019. Even with a gimmicked chair, he blasted Cody to the point of opening a giant gash, so it obviously was needlessly dangerous and stupid, then doing a CTE/concussion angle in 2019 is just :gucci: as hell anyway. So all that stuff with Darby was immediately overshadowed and all you came away with after the match was how Cody was instead of the grit Darby just showed.

Young Bucks and Kenny doing Street Fighter cosplay was both :mjlol: and :francis:. I get that it was in conjunction with a fighting game thing, but it came off like they didn't take the match seriously and doing comedy spots in the match made that even more apparent. Big match Kenny hasn't made an appearance in AEW yet, and if it's okay for him as an EVP, it's good enough for everyone. Kind of felt like Lucha Bros were a complete after thought in the match, but I don't know if I could really give specific reasons why. Just felt like it was definitely The Elite show and they were just background players. The rope walk Spanish Fly tho :gladbron:

I have to lol at their big push that wins and losses matter, and this show has a draw and then the main event literally doesn't count in the records book, something acknowledged on commentary. Mox/Janella was definitely violence for the sake of doing it, as there was no beef between these guys and the first match they've ever had featured: Barbed wire chair, multiple barbed wire boards, tables, ladders, thumb tacks. So if that's an opening feud match or even a one off thing, what the fukk are they going to have to do for actual blood feuds? That said the match was :whoo:from a spectacle of :huhldup:aspect, but again the whole thing was overshadowed by post match stuff. No one remembered that Joey Janella just main evented against a former WWE Champion and did barefoot thumbtack spots because Kenny Omega came out afterwards and beat up Mox and goofed off with props during it, which again commentary pointed out in a :martin:kind of way.

I think the crowd not being nearly as hot as the DON crowd certainly changed the energy of the show, but JR clearly being uncomfortable to outright disgusted at some of the dangerous stuff for the sake of being able to do it and then not knowing the Street Fighter/video game stuff but knowing he didn't like it was :russ::russ::russ: as hell. In general JR seemed like all of his excitement was already gone and he didn't like what he was seeing.

They got a lot of kinks to work out especially once they start running a weekly TV show.

Good stuff I saw: Pairing top guys with young, unexposed guys and booking them as at least close to equals, using the story of the matches to define and enhance personalities and characters.

Worst thing: I had to EDIT to remember the four way even happened. Adam Page as the face chasing Jericho for the title is gonna flop so hard :mjlol:

I gotta finish the show still but I’m like :ld: about a lot of it. I’m giving these guys a lot of slack to experiment and work things out, but I’m hoping they really nail it down by the time they hit TV.
