There's a strong part of me that says I would rather choose the dinner with Jay-Z. Let me explain:

First, let me preface that even though my username is Hov, yes I was a Jay-Z “stan”, but that was when I first created an account on SOHH in like 2001 lol. I’m 35 years old now - I don’t stan anyone anymore.

Now, I’m thinking this is a real dinner with Jay-Z right? Like a sit down one on one, hour or so over some good food? That’s more enticing to me at this point of my life than 50k.

The most money I have ever made, the biggest checks I have ever had cut, have been because of private dinners, car rides or hanging out with “Jay-Z” like people - now, this isn’t some famous rich person, this is a man who runs 4-5 major businesses, and probably has 100 more we don’t know about, including investments out the ass. I know this because there are people I know that are not a Jay-Z that could change your life with a phone call, so I know a damn Jay-Z can.

I actually run a few businesses and have products that would make more a lot more than 50k if Jay-Z texted one or two people, and a photo with Jay-Z or Obama having a private dinner with you goes across the planet.

Being in big meetings and working with high net worth, I want to let you know that social capital goes a long way. People will take meetings with you and buy product or service from you just because you are associated with someone or have made a mini name for yourself. I’m talking legitimate corporate business, and I am talking from experience.

Also, I keep hearing people say Jay-Z wouldn’t talk business with you, but every successful human I know, stuff just comes up. No, you don’t pitch your damn business idea to Jay and push your mixtape on the side as well, but when the discussion about life, goals, your job or your day comes up, JayZ-like people (people who have money, clout and are super connected) always like connecting people - thats how they stay on top. Not just taking, but giving. You would be REALLY surprised.

Say you want to be a fashion designer and have some pieces. All Jay has to say is “That’s dope. Have you heard of Soho House on 54th Street? No? I’ll shoot a text to the founder Sam Watters, go meet with him tomorrow”, then Jay could forget you ever exist, but Sam Watters gets a text from JayZ to meet with you he is dropping everything to take that meeting, and then mentoring you to grow your brand, which is worth 100x more than $50k.

If you are literally offering nothing to the world, maybe take the 50k, but I think even a janitor could be like “Bro my wife and I started a cleaning company on the side, check this I will clean Roc offices for free” and Jay could be like “Nah, we good but heres Claudine’s number see what she has to offer” and Claudine could get you a 200k cleaning contract - because Jay-Zs friends are billionaires and millionaires as well.

Just some thoughts.

Breh, Jay giving you giving you contacts for your cleaning business is an unrealistic expectation to have of this dinner. He doesn't know you, doesn't know the quality of your work, the professionalism of your business, etc. It's highly unlikely he'd vouch for you and your business like that amongst his friends and associates.

The artist/designer example makes more sense. It's still a significant longshot, but if you truly believe in your work, I can get why you'd consider risking a guaranteed 50k to see your dreams realized. Cuz if Jay really likes it he very well may connect you with some movers and shakers in that world.

Well I'm bi'ness man, so 10 minutes with Jay would most like be able to generate more than 50k in future revenues and future projects. Hell I wish I could get in contact with him now to tell him what his last album should be named and the imagery he should use. And quite a few other possibly lucrative ideas actually.

This...

Jay is a well connected guy. Why would anyone who shares his same entrepreneurial spirit not take a sit down with him? 50k isn’t a lot of money, and if your taking that over the meeting then most likely your not financially or mentally in position to sit down with him anyways.

Im not trying to diss, just keeping it 100...

Exactly. $50k is definitely not a lot of money - so if that's crazy money to you, take it. Jay-Z nor his connections benefit you.

I'm just going to have to say you are flat out wrong, and yes, that is how the world works. It's surprising to see that its easier than it seems in some aspects to be successful because that takes away from the victim narrative.

I was put into the White House on a project with Obama, no degree, tats on my hands, etc, work unseen, because someone that the original invitee respected told him I was cool. That person and I (and his employees) had drinks one night at a bar, and then talking about life and projects, he said maybe I should jump on a call with them in a week or so - after that call, they said hey rock with us to the meeting, and so on and so forth.

I'm not saying Jay-Z is going to give you Kanye's number or the CEO of Apple or anything, but how the hell do you think you get to those people? They have people on top of people on top of people to vet and run these operations - so if he says "Go holla at Joe" and Joe is some menial person, that is still way further and deeper then you meeting Joe on your own - and Joe still is a name in Jay-Z's mouth. So, Joe can get you a small gig, you crush it, he can get you a bigger gig, you crush it and meet someone else, etc etc. 50k is chump change to that - oh, and you did have dinner with Jay-Z, one on one, where you can post that pic that literally millionaire celebs don't even have - which to others, make them feel like your worth AT LEAST a shot or meeting.

Think bigger. I did it, you're smart, do better than me.

It's funny because TLR is usually against entrepreneurship (i know, i preach that on here all the time and nikkas get mad and neg me), so i really think their true reason for picking the dinner isn't for "business connections" , they just want to take a pic with Jay and hope that maybe he'll give them a "job" :mjlol:

I'm not saying 50k is "a lot of money", but i'd rather take the guaranteed money than some "possible connections". I already have/own stuff that i could invest the 50k in.

Nothing against Jay but he comes off as a bougie nikka to me, i can't see him really taking random nikkas seriously even if they did have legitimate business plans, he'd be the type to tell them, "yeah i got you, i'll have them call you" and then they never anything about it again

nikkas love symbolism though, that's why they're picking the chance to meet him and "maybe" get some connections. The money is guaranteed, the "connections" aren't, so i'd take the money.

I know a dude who was hyped to meet Russell Simmons and Russell was cool, but he didn't help him like he hoped he would, at all

Why be so worried about what someone "comes off as" when you have never met that person in your life? Watching TV and reading social media memes isn't real life - you don't know what Jay-Z does or acts in his spare time, like literally no clue.

There's a story that I tell a lot of people that does feature Jay-Z, because it comes straight from business school - they tell you to remember seemingly menial dates like birthdays and graduation from associates and people you work with/contract etc, and send cards and gifts or have an assistant do it if your too big for that.

I remember hearing that or reading it, but 99.9% of people or entrepreneurs do not do that - then I read (I'll try to find the article) with some random business guy who got a card or something from Jay at his office in the mail for his birthday. Now, this guy probably knows that the assistants assistant kept that date and sent that, but that person still thinks "Damn as busy as Jay-Z is, he still found a way to shoot this over", which next time this dude needs to do something for one of Jay's brands, he gets it done.

People like Jay don't just rap their way to this level of success, there are tons of factors that go into this, which also include sound business practices.

There are very few people that are worth a 50k dinner, but Jay-Z, Oprah, Obama, Elon Musk and a few others like that def are. Trump if you're into that side of things...
