Racism in Costa Rica
\thread
I'm out here now and you can feel the hate coming off a few of these cats when my black ass spends any money. For the most part people are chill though, much more chill and less brutal than other places in the region. Doesn't compare with american racism at all. Actually, it seems like the only ticos who care I'm black are the pretentious ones who hang out with old, retired cacs. It's not cheap out here compared to Panama, Colombia or Nicaragua, but it's safer than them. San Jose about the cost of a small town in the states.
Obviously, black locals are fighting an uphill battle here, and Limon (on the blacker side of costa rica) is considered the most dangerous by locals. I see black people working once in awhile, but the majority corporate workers/ multi-property owners are pale white.
