Fuzile Aims To Impress Against Ward in IBF Eliminator on Haney-Linares Card

One of South Africa's best boxing talent Azinga Fuzile will introduce himself to the American boxing audience when he takes on Martin Ward of the UK in an IBF world junior lightweight title eliminator at Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas on May 29.

The fight will serve as the chief support to the DAZN streamed WBC lightweight title clash between Devin Haney and Jorge Liranes.

Fuzile (14-1, 8KOs) will return to the ring for the first time since suffering an eighth round knockout loss to Tajikistan born Russian Shavkat Rakhimov in a similar title eliminator in East London SA, which took place in September 2019.

Fuzile was leading on all the cards when Rakhimov rallied to score the knockout.

Rakhimov was later caught on camera being administered with what looked like smelling salts before the fatal round, sparking Fuzile's camp to lodge a protest to the IBF.

The IBF ruled in favor of both fighters allowing Rakhimov to proceed with his IBF mandatory shot against Joseph “Jojo” Diaz while also handing Fuzile another title eliminator.

Rakhimov fought to a draw with Diaz, who lost the belt on the scales when he failed to make weight at Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio California this past February.

Now the 24-year old left hander will follow Rakhimov by also introducing himself to the American boxing audience.

“We are excited to fight in US for the first time and there is no better platform than to showcase our talent on DAZN,” said Fuzile promoter Nomfesane Nyatela of Rumble Africa Promotions.

Fuzile is already known in certain parts of US following his documented social media jibes with former champion Tevin Farmer who lost the title to Diaz.

Soon after Fuzile's crushing defeat to Rakhimov, Farmer took to social media to rub more salt to Fuzile's wounds by labelling him a hyped up boxer.

“You are supposed to win these kinds of fights, mate if you think you can share the ring with me,” Farmer wrote.

While Farmer is no longer the champion, Fuzile's team could not help taking a dig at him ahead of his US debut.

“Fortunately we will bump into Mr. Farmer there and just say 'hello' to him. We understand that he is no longer a champion so for now he is irrelevant to us,” continued Nyatela.

Ward (24-1-2, 11 KOs) was last in action in February 2020 when he beat Mexican contender Jesus Amparan to move to the fourth spot in IBF ratings, right behind Japan's Kenichi Ogawa, who is scheduled to fight for the vacant title against Rakhimov in July.

Linares is shot bruh. Whats the last clear impressive win he’s had? There aint nothing Haney can do about it bc nobody worth a snot not fighting him, but that still dont mean this aint a shytty fight

All valid points.

But never underestimate someone as dedicated and skilled as Linares.

All signs point to Haney but Linares wont be listening to any of that.

Damn bro....kinda harsh. Both interim champs bailed. Loma got called to the carpet and declined. Fortuna got called to the carpet and declined. The next ranked fighter by the WBC is Linares. You making it seem like the kid went dumpster diving. Linares has no chance of beating Haney, but he gives him the same look that Lipinets gave Boots this past weekend.

Haney exposed in this clip. Def a clout chaser. :scust:

You actually used that clowns narrative as your basis for this statement? He was all wrong and emotional. Name calling like a kid. Loma became Franchise once Haney was his mandatory, right? Yes. Devin becomes champion the same way Lennox Lewis did, so why the hate on how Devin got his belt? Up until the Teo and Loma fight, the franchise belt was non transferable. Teo wins and automatically sets up the fight with Devin for undisputed, but instead chooses to go the franchise belt route and hide. Went to war with his promotional company to avoid the Devin fight. Ryan fights a title eliminator for Devin's belt. So whether he was in the ring that night or not, his name was gonna be in peoples mouth because it was an actual TITLE ELIMINATOR for his belt. Why not be there? That's called promo. Clout chasing is what Ryan did. Called out Tank. On Tyson podcast barking into the phone at Tank. Then quickly turns the tide and throw Pac name out there. First it was an exhibition. Then it was gonna be a real fight. Then it was gonna......disappear without a trace for Fortuna?!?! Mind you, this is after Ryan said the only way Tank wasn't next, was for something bigger. We're now at a Fortuna fight for..... guess what.....ANOTHER TITLE ELIMINATOR for Devin's belt. He rather fight another eliminator than to fight Devin, who he was MANDATED to fight next. All Devin has done is call out the right people and let them expose themselves by avoiding the fight. Teo pops in the hallway asking Eddie for $10M and then settle for a fight in Australia against a bum nobody knows for $4M. Nothing Devin can do to stop that behavior. Nothing. He's being avoided and it's obvious. Kid already sold out in Vegas. Only person over on DAZN that's fighting people that's worth a damn.

You sound scared cause you know it's showtime in May. You Ryan and Teo fans can't hide after that. Its go time. As a fight fan you should be hyped that we're here at this point of no return for all three of them. Instead all you got is a wack ass podcaster as your proof to make your claim. He sounds like a clown and you look like one for following him around.

Chantelle Cameron vs. Melissa Hernandez Moved To May 29, Las Vegas

Chantelle Cameron will defend her WBC World Super-Lightweight title against Melissa Hernandez on the undercard of Devin Haney’s WBC World Lightweight title defense against Jorge Linares on Saturday May 29 at the Michelob ULTRA Arena at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, live worldwide on DAZN – with more tickets to go on sale at 10am PT tomorrow (April 25).

Cameron (13-0 7 KOs) makes the first defense of the title she won with a shut-out points win over Adriana dos Santos Araujo in Milton Keynes, UK in October, and the talented 29 year old fights in the States for the first time in the paid ranks against Hernandez (23-7-3 7 KOs).

The Puerto Rican veteran is fighting for a World title at a third weight class after been the WBC Featherweight ruler and having also challenged for the WBC Lightweight strap.

There’s a fascinating battle between two Golden Boy Promotions stablemates as Jason Quigley and Shane Mosley Jr go toe-to-toe for the WBO NABO Middleweight title. Quigley (18-1 14 KOs) is back on the winning path with back-to-back wins after his setback against Tureano Johnson in July 2019, and a third win on the spin for the decorated Irish amateur would catapult him into the mix for more big fights and titles at 160lbs.

That’s exactly what Mosley Jr (17-3 10 KOs) is hunting too, and the son of the former three-weight king Shane Mosley is in fine form himself and has boxed more recently than Quigley, forcing the retirement of Cristian Olivas after five rounds in Indio, California in February. That was a fourth win on the bounce for the 30 year old, and he’ll be out for a statement win over Quigley to emerge into the mix at Middleweight.

It’s a huge night for Martin J. Ward as he faces Azinga Fuzile in a final eliminator for the IBF World Super-Featherweight title. Ward (24-1-2 11 KOs) is edging closer to his World title dreams and the #4 ranked Briton enters the biggest fight of his career to date on his American debut and a welcome return to action for the 29 year old whose last fight was a shutout win over Jesus Amparan in Sheffield, UK in February 2020.

Fuzile (14-1 8 KOs) also fights in America for the first time in his career, and the South African ranked one spot lower than Ward at #5 is taking a second bite at the cherry having faced Shavkatdzhon Rakhimov in an eliminator in September 2019 in East London, South Africa, with Fuzile ahead on the cards before the Russian recorded an eight round stoppage. ‘Golden Boy’ has not boxed since that night but can get back on course for a world title shot in what promises to be an exciting clash.

At the other end of the spectrum, there’s a professional debut on the card for Eddie Hearn’s latest American signing, Khalil Coe. The 24 year old Jersey talent will kick life off in the paid ranks at Light-Heavyweight before eyeing a move down to 168lbs, and his journey will begin in Las Vegas.

Reshat Mati (9-0 7 KOs) enters double figures in the pro game on the card, with the New Yorker looking to extend his KO run to six fights, having added two KOs in quick succession in November and December, both in Hollywood, Fl.

Ramla Ali (2-0) has been impressive in her two fights since turning pro in October and the first pro female fighter from Somalia gets an introduction to American fight fans on the bill, a card that is rounded off by Devin Haney Promotions’ Darren Cunningham (13-0 7 KOs) continuing his pro rise.

“This is a stacked card in support of a brilliant main event – and our first promotion in Las Vegas,” said promoter Eddie Hearn. “It’s a brilliant opportunity for Chantelle Cameron to showcase her skills in the States and stake her claim for the unification fights she craves, against a tough competitor in Melissa Hernandez.

“Quigley vs. Mosley Jr has the feel of a must-win crossroads fight for the pair, while Ward vs. Fuzile has plenty at stake and is sure to catch fire.

“What a night for Khalil Coe to make his debut, this young man can become a star, and the pro journeys of Reshat Mati, Ramla Ali and Darren Cunningham continue on the bill. This is an unmissable night of boxing in Las Vegas.”
