pretty good fight. could have went either way. you can tell fury gets by alot in this era because of the lack of comp and his sheer size.

good to see a little good man compete with a good big man.lol

if the ref wanted he could have stopped the fight during the 9th . i wouldnt have had a problem with it.

ill tune in for the rematch.

I truly have to question anyone who thinks Usyk fought any of this fight at his pace. Fury countered him effectively until round 9. After that the fight was about even. This was not one sided and anyone saying that is being a subjective fan and not an objective observer.

Fury was on his backfoot all night long with Usyk walking him down and landing that overhand left at will. how was this fight not faught at Usyk's pace?

Someone school me: why is a standing knockdown a thing?

Why shouldn’t he have to take that beating until it becomes a standing knockout (which I understand to be about health protection)? That saved him.
It's not a thing in professional boxing. However it will be ruled a knockdown if the ropes are the only thing holding you up after getting punched.

Fury got the lucky but the referee did the right thing.

So if it was the middle of the ring and he’s standing, but getting tagged not protecting himself what’s the call?

That rarely happens. Typically, you get hit with a staggering shot, you're probably going to stagger to the ropes anyway.

With the way the ropes was holding Fury up and he wasn't throwing back, Nelson could have easily called it but he understood the circumstance.

On the other side of that, the same thing happened with Torrez/Moore last night. Moore was still on his feet but he wasn't throwing back. There were no real implications to that fight, so the ref stopped it.

TKO but that's not really the point. If he was caught in the centre of the ring, the ropes wouldn't be there to hold him up.

And again, that rarely happens. There have been moments where a fighter gets hit and his body will seize. But usually the force and momentum of a punch is going to send the body in that direction.

It is the point. The ropes preventing his fall is what makes it a knockdown vs a TKO which is what I was hung up on. I get it now. Thanks for clarifying that.

Still seems like a judgement call that could be interpreted either way. Meaning, if it was the center of the ring and Fury still had the ability to stay upright and make it to the ropes, then he wasn’t really knocked down where the ref called it. Put another way, if Fury’s getting tagged like that, not protecting himself stumbles to the ropes but keeps getting turned around so he goes from ropes to the adjacent ropes to the adjacent ropes, is that a knockdown or TKO? I’d call that a TKO.

That rarely happens. Typically, you get hit with a staggering shot, you're probably going to stagger to the ropes anyway.

So (unwritten)different rules for title/“important” fights? :snoop:

Edit:
Rewatched the clip, Fury basically fell into the corner. I get the knockdown call now.

Wilder is suspectible to knocking you out at any moment. Aj dont strike fear like that. His one shot which is that right arm missile is probably the hardest/strongest shot in boxing history.

Now i do agree that Aj will break you down overtime better than Wilder. Wilder didnt even need boxing fundamentals to make a decent career in boxing. Thats how hard his punch is.

Thank you. People love trolling about the power in Wilder's right hand. Dude got a Bronze medal in the Olympics with just 2-3 years of Boxing experience. That's how deadly it is
