It was all good just 2 seasons ago
Homie is 24 years old, I don't think he was expecting never to have to worry about money again. Everyone loves to talk about what players "could" do with their money but how many players actually retire and just live off of their money for the rest of their lives anyway? You really think somebody can live the rest of their life off 500k?![]()
yeah, exactly. which is why the common refrain "it's a gladiator sportIt is though...Even as a huge football fan, I imagine one day I'll be trying to explain football to my grandkids one day and they'll ask:
"Y'all filled up stadiums with over 50,000, sometimes more than 100,000 people and huddled around televisions to watch men or children run full force into each other? Y'all produced and televised segments where y'all laughed at these guys getting 'jacked up'? Y'all really needed some doctor to tell you those collisions and getting knocked out was really bad for your health? And y'all considered yourselves civilized?"
And all I'll be able to day is: "It was a different time, son"
I really hope he becomes a coach or something. If he stuck it out until his next contract then retired at 28 or 29 or something after getting millions, he'd be in such better shape moving forward.
I guess I respect the decision but I can't shake the part of me that thinks it was a punk move
No, I didn't say that because he bailed on his team or whatever. I said that because he is living in his fears. He could set himself and his family up for life by playing into a second contract. Is there risk? Sure. But life is full of risks. Maybe he is more at risk than other players or something medically, but if not, then I just don't agree with his decision. I mean, I respect that it is his own decision, but.. ehyou say it would have been a punk move, well wouldnt have retiring right after your big payday have been?
If you had $800,000 in for example 2015. Took $200,000 to live off for the next two years, and invested the other $600,000 in roth IRA's you'd have a good constant revenue stream for quite some time.Only I way I can see is if they do one of those mini homes thing. You know it looks like a home but is like 100 sq ft. shyt is disgusting to me. It has no plumbing, I let you google what they do.
Anyways. He would have to be good investor with the 820k he will roughly receive after taxes. If he does work, he can be virtuously debt free. Act like he is paying a mortgage and a car note, but that money would be going to a interest and/or money market account and IRA account. He would be way more comfortable than like 95% of the population.
Jake Locker and P Willy don't have to work anymore in their life though.
