Swerve Strickland's title reign started off with a match this week, leading many to wonder why he didn't get a promo or a celebration.

Fightful inquired after readers had asked, and we were told that the plan was to give Swerve Strickland a big lead in from the NBA on Collision for his first promo as champion. That segment has since been announced.

The idea that was relayed to us was that hopefully Swerve would benefit from the best lead in of AEW's 2024 year, as Celtics vs. Heat in the NBA Playoffs heads right into the show.

@Cattle Mutilation as I said in the other thread, they better take advantage of that lead in. If it's Swerve cutting the promo, cool, but something has to happen in that segment to make it worth it.

There’s no postgame show on TNT either so it goes straight from game to AEW this Saturday, that lead-in is going to be massive. They really need to nail the first 15 minutes, perhaps the biggest they’ve ever had. And if TNT or AEW fukks up the audio, I’ll set @Silkk on fire.

I've always felt that Jericho's creative brilliance is on par with Pat Patterson in terms of creativity around gimmicks and such


Except that patterson was done wrestling by his late 30's and early 40's.
