^Good posts up there, but for me, Attitude ended at the first brand extension. They was the first official reset button. Long time teams were split up, new ones were formed, and guys were getting gimmick changes. WM X7 may have been what lit the match for the eventual end, but it wasn't the end.
This right here, I originally thought the Attitude Era was from the beginning of WrestleMania 14 to the end of WrestleMania 18 with the following of the Draft creating the piff Ruthless Aggression Era on Smackdown and the "GET THE F OUT!" campaign with WWE being the new name of the company.

But with all the watch parties with by TSC family along with listening to tons of wrestling podcast it got me going back and reliving history looking at old classics with fresh eyes trying to piece together the timeline accurately.

If sting showed up the next night to be the face to go against Austin :wow:. Good point on Roman and cena now too. Hard to care when only 1-2 characters are protected and everyone else looks expendable. A lot of wrestlers being protected makes the whole product shine.

Yep, wrestlers being protected, plus having engaging personalities, giving you reasons to care. Bossman, Crash Holly, Godfather, and even Steve Blackman had my interest as much as the top guys.

on top of that, it seems the negative reaction to turning Austin heel has at least been a factor in why Cena & Roman have never fully turned heel, they just show some heel tendencies only to be turned back into a corny face the next week

It's more Vince not wanting his favorite as a heel. He books them exactly like he booked hogan. They're presented as a squeaky clean one note baby face that we're supposed to love because they say so even though he acts like a dikk at times and shows bad sportsmanship and leaves his friends high and dry all the time. I think it also stems back to his belief that hogan became so big because Vince made hogan and can just as easily manufacture another one, and obviously that was not the case.

They were in a strange spot either way honestly. Where do you go with Austin after this as a character win or lose, face or heel? Rock leaving for Hollywood makes it even harder to figure out what to do. Makes for a very unclear picture.

Another reason the Invasion getting fukked up was so important. If WWF had no more "challenges" for face Austin, then throwing fukking WCW at him would've been fukking flames as his last 1-2 year run on top.

Pretty much have to blame the WWF/Vince for never having a legit vision for WCW once they purchased it, and the bigger WCW stars who set out with those massive contracts. Invasion would have been great for the industry if you had Hogan, Flair, Sting, Rey, Steiner, Hall, Nash, etc involved right off top in addition to DDP and Booker T. But instead, it was Booker and DDP who immediately got their legs cut from under them, and guys like Hugh Morris and Shawn Staziak. Hell, look at the very last WWF vs WCW/ECW card:

SS-2001-WWF.jpg

Booker T was the only actual WCW guy :francis::martin::mjlol: the WWF from July - November 2001 was solely about making WCW and ECW look like subordinates, not to make money. They took something that potentially had years worth of legs and destroyed it in less than 6 months.

all of the big names from wcw still had guaranteed contracts that paid them waaaay more money than the wwf was able to offer. only DDP and Booker T took the chance of taking less guaranteed money in exchange for coming early. its why Hogan, nash, and hall didn't come in until 2002, and goldberg and Steiner in 2003. they all came over right after their contracts ended. :yeshrug:

not saying they wouldn't have still fukked up the angle, but they had no choice over the top guys not coming in.

In hindsight the ONLY odd thing about this storyline was them adding Debra to the mix.... but they realize she was dead weight so they quickly took her out the mix

Nah, they used her to foreshadow the Austin/McMahon link-up... in the beginning McMahon made Deb Rock's manager just to fukk with Austin... but right before the show drew nearer, McMahon told her she couldn't be Rock's manager anymore... this was at the same time Austin was stressing how badly he needed to win the title. She was never gonna be part of the show, it was just a little low-key detail in the storyline... Chris Kreski da GOD of creative :whew:

sometimes you take the risk for the long term payoff.

A WWF vs WCW/ECW storyline with all the big time players done right could probably have had higher ratings/profits than anytime from 98 - 2000
