IGN has learned that significant cuts have been made to 343's Halo development team. One former 343 employee impacted by the layoffs estimated about a quarter of 343's staff was impacted, although that's not a firm statistic. We've also learned that around 30 people were let go from 343's art department alone, with former employees saying 343 Industries was hit "hard with positions impacted across all disciplines."

Meanwhile, at least one senior-level source with knowledge of 343's internal workings, but who is no longer with the studio, has claimed to IGN that it is being reduced to to publishing team. However, based on conversations that IGN has had with knowledgeable sources, the situation at 343 appears to be ongoing, and there is a growing — if unconfirmed — conviction that 343 will no longer be Halo's sole developer when it's settled."

The real question is why are people still playing Halo in 2023?:dahell:
The core gameplay is a top tier shooter imo. The main issue imo is they failed with the live service aspect and variety in maps. If they had their shyt together and released multiplayer in proper state then we wouldn't have these issues

Yall need to play more shooters. There's hardly any attrition required in Halo games. It's just timing your openings + spray and pray. It's fun casual shooter gameplay, but it's nowhere close to top tier mechanics.

For a console shooter, I don't feel many shooters have better mechanics than Halo. Unsure in PC space since I don't have a gaming PC.

Apex Legends, COD, Siege, etc etc.

Even the BF games, especially BFV, have better gunplay.

Not saying Halo is bad in terms of mechanics, but it's extremely casual and simplified.

Never got into Seige, but I know its gunplay was good from what i've played. Apex is def the best console shooter, and unsure if COD is still the best in gunplay but MW2 def feels better than some of their recent efforts.

I have to strong disagree about recent Battlefield because I feel those games have awful gunplay and it's been bad for awhile.

Top tier in term of gunplay for me even though I don't play some of the games these days are Titanfall, Apex, Halo, MW2, Destiny 2, and I might be missing some.

BFV is when they added mechanics like shooting on your back and crouch sprinting. BF2042 was a step back but they're slowly adding back all the movement mechanics from BFV. And either way, these games actually require you to do things like take cover and feather your shots for mid-long range fights.

Halo is just pure arcade fun. It's good for what it is, but this is why the competitive space has moved onto more hardcore experiences. And these days whatever the major streamers/influencers are playing determines what games end up lasting long.

Didn't get to spend much time with V, but hopefully the next battlefield returns to form.

Competitive scene for Halo is tricky because it initially did good numbers, but numbers took a major hit due to state of game. Still found it weird that Snip3down dropped Apex for Halo because that was a huge risk that didn't pay off. I think competitive scene wise Halo can still be popular, but if a game is in a poor state then you're not going to do numbers. I do feel Halo is in a weird spot where they most likely not getting Gen Z gamers tbh and old fans of the series doesn't want it to to evolve.

I feel like people flocked to Halo initially because it was something new and hyped, and they were tired of Warzone and Apex, but ultimately you can only play traditional game modes for so long. Especially when they dont really require tactics and strategy like CS GO, Valorant, COD S&D, or Ready or Not. There was definitely a lot of paid promo for the game too which was another factor.

Halo is stuck in a place where they need to evolve the gameplay, but theyre afraid they'll alienate the fanbase and lose their identity if they make any fundamental changes.

The ship has sailed, they killed it. They need a reboot with a new graphics engine, or try UE5. Focus on lighting and physics. Go M rated again, bring back blood and Flood. Have various maps for big team battle, slayer, and solo game types.
It’s not rocket science brehs and they failed us this gen :francis:
