30 years ago Martin Scorsese dropped a classic film called Goodfellas

Basically GOODFELLAS is a masterclass in telling a story.

You have the protagonist of the story who has ambition, while coming from a poor/blue-collar background; this person WANTS more money/power/influence/etc. So they find their way in, building up their dream. However where Scorsese does so well, is he shows the flaws of people so clear as day.

So what happens is that after so much of this power comes to them, their flaws overtake self-control, and they not only fukk everything up, but their friends fukk everything up.

CASINO is basically more matured Goodfellas, as the mob had the WRONG people running stuff in Las Vegas; which ended up getting people killed, and eventually having the entire mob getting runned out of the city.

Wolf of Wall Street is the same concept, eventually everyone is too fukking stupid to stop the excess before it's too late.
Henry's fatal flaw is that he wanted all the power...but in his heart of hearts, he wasn't truly built for that shyt, and that's why in the end he was a rat. I think the "Funny how" and all of the scenes involving Billy Batts' murder illustrated that best

Franceze says it's one of the most accurate mob movies ever.

The real Henry Hill said Joe Pesci's portrayal of Tommy was pretty much 100% accurate...and this is despite his appearance being completely off :heh:

Real mob guys love Pesci. I've seen them say nothing but good things about his acting in mob movies. I bet he gets free meals and drinks everywhere he goes.

Ironically Pesci improvised the "funny how" scene based on a real encounter he had with a mobster at a restaurant where the dude really did get pissed off :russ:

"I wonder about you sometimes, Henry. You may fold under questioning."

:francis::ehh:

solid foreshadowing...

another one I remember is this “never rat in your friends” scene where Henry *snorts* his nose after being told this...impossible that the snort was accidental and left in.

also “Gribbs got 20 years for sayin hello to some jerk selling junk behind his back...the guy’s gonna die in the can...I don’t need that”

Gribbs = Carmine “Mr. Gribbs” Trumanti, one time acting boss of the Lucchese Family before Tony Ducks and he did in fact die in the can after being convicted in the French connection case.

I was thought The French Connection would make a great TV series especially after what zerozerozero did
