I talked about it a few posts up. Spence still has a tendency to lunge and throw off balance shots. Leaving himself wide open to overhand counters. He also has a tendency to open up really wide when he throws and lean in forward with his head exposed. A fast and accurate counter puncher could make him pay for this. And like I said too. He fights at the same speed every round. Every punch is thrown at the same velocity. Never really switches it up. Doing all these things vs Crawford could get himself timed and countered with heavy shots. It's a great fight though. Right now I just see crawford having the edge.
there is an x factor as spence continues to step up competition level i.e. pacquiao, crawford, thurman: he's never faced a big puncher before.

I see what you mean about the lean in with the straight left, but this isn't as much of an issue for a larger, class, strong southpaw imo, unless they're fighting another southpaw. An elite slip or parry fighter might be able to do something, but in the heat of the moment it's harder to tag someone when they're heads moving from the southpaw straight left in that action imo.

Much easier to tag if they're being sloppy on the jab (southpaw), which is obvious.

Perhaps Spence was aware that Garcia would struggle to counter in this regard.

I understand why Spence thanked mikey for the opportunity. This fight officially made spence a household name. Dude is a star and the biggest name at 147 besides pac. I Bet anything the ratings for his next cable telecast are gonna be through the roof. He's must see from now on. Saturday prolly converted a lot of people to the sport. And people who stopped watching are probably gonna wanna jump back in now. They now witnessed how great this new generation of fighters are.

I think that's the only reason spence didnt go for the knockout....just out of respect. He wanted to let mikey finish on his feet. He had mikey in trouble plenty of times. If he wanted to finish it he could have.
He won't be fighting on regular TV again, breh. And yes, he carried Mikey out of respect. Round 8/9/10/11 he could have finished it anytime he wanted. Errol told Mikey he was foolish all the way back when Mikey fought Robert Easter...he told him there were weight classes for a reason. He knew this would happen.

I love Mikey to death and it really hurts me he lost, as he is one of my favorite fighters, but he may have committed career suicide by fighting a fight everyone told him not to

Spence knew Mikey's reach and arm size (width) was an issue (for Mikey) as the fight wore on.

He started loading up a lot later on with lefts as soon as Mikey went to throw.

Had zero concerns about Garcia's power or chances of hitting him as the fight wore on.

He's not finished. He needs a strong recovery though. I mean..Sugar Ray Robinson lost and he's better than anyone you've ever seen box. We'll see if Mikey takes a tough fight next outing.
