Shieet. When I lived in Pittsburgh I had a whole house for $500 a month plus utilities.

But, I had nothing to do. All my friends were leaving or already left. After a while, I couldn't find any work that wasn't cooking or cleaning after school. Couldn't meet any women. Couldn't meet any people. The nightlife sucked. I just felt like I just clashed horribly with everything in that city. I was pretty much a loner and besides the fact I hated the f*ck out of that place, I was miserable. I was paying next to nothing for next to nothing.

I've been living here in New York for almost a year and I just feel like a different person. Much better than before. Meeting people is no problem, but I can have my personal space too. There are so many opportunities. I've already been through 4 jobs in that time frame. I think the one thing to take into consideration is not just the cost of a place, but also what it can offer someone.

As a first gen Nigerian/West Indian, I was so sick and tired of living in Pittsburgh. I couldn't and didn't fit in there at all. It's nice to meet more people who share my same background and connect with others on different levels. Sure, I pay out the ass...but it's not like I'm going to live here forever.

:tu:
Make sure you stick to your plans because, A LOT of people say living in NYC is temporary but the fun lifestyle traps them, and they become stuck, due to doing drugs or having kids, which means they never really get the money they planned. Stay strong, and on your path.

Good post.

But would you live in Ohio or North Dakota? Cause I lived in Ohio for two years, and other than all of the friends I made and the fun times I had, I hated living there. The whole state is dumb, backwards, ignorant, and just every other bad descriptor term I can think of. I've never lived in North Dakota but I can imagine it's ten times worse than Ohio. Atleast Ohio has Cleveland, Cincinatti, and Colombus.

When I think of the "real" america (i.e. what America is really like), I think of places like North Dakota, Ohio, the midwest, and the south. Boarded up houses, hoods/ghettos, meth towns, farms, strip malls, "plans" with McMansions, plasticky and fake shopping malls enclosed in a fake suburban bubble with even faker people...basically the places that NO ONE wants to go to.

New York is the tourist hotspt of the world, but it is just a small piece of the American pie. New York is it's own thing. The rest of America is severely different.

If you grew up with mad space and use to driving your truck everywhere, then NY fukking sucks

really the East Coast Period

I lived in Boston and spent lots of time in NY and shyt is sad living in a lil ass apt when you grew up in house with a huge front and backyard that has a catfish pond
and blackberry bushes, pear trees, and muscadine tress

esp when you close to New Orleans and can be in the city when you want

I just cant do NY taking public transportation is depressing

Lower Manhattan rent prices are what's inflating that number. You got million dollar penthouse suites and what not down there. You can get a decent spot outside of Manhattan for 900-1300. which is still expensive when most places you can have a whole house with a yard for that.

You'll be far from the city, the building probably won't be too nice, public transportation options will be limited, and this number isn't inclusive of broker fees, which are nearly mandatory in this rental market.

WRONG.

WRONG.

WRONG.

As a person who lives outside of the USA NYC has a reputation for TOURISM around the world people want to VISIT. We have never wanted to live in New York.

It has a reputation among foreigners for being a bit 'rough'. Trust me as someone who looks outside into the uSA and discusses this shyt with everyone I know. NYC ain't somwhere anyone wants to live. It's somewhere we prefer just to visit, just like Vegas.

as a person who has immigrants for parents, lives with plenty all around ... this whole post is just :childplease:

NYC, great place to visit, not live. Im living like a boss compared to some of my friends in NYC and they make more money than me

I live in NYC now and I can agree with this. Granted, I'd still rather pay this high rent than go back to Charlotte :wow:

Immigrants from any third world country want to come to anywhere in the western world.

I am talking western world to western world immigration not third world to western world.

NO person who lives in Europe is running to move to New York of all places in the USA.

New York doesn't have a good living reputation. The first time every I know visited there from Europe we were left very

GREAT city to visit but not to live. Everyone knows New York is a great city But NOT for living.

An African Immigrant or Immigrant from any poor country is just trying to get the fukk out. Those of us already IN the western world have choice and NYC ain't it. People wanna move to the USA but not NYC. NYC and Vegas are places we visit then go home.

The fukking rats

Those small ass apartments

Sorry Breh but again, WRONG.

Living in NYC is a waste of time for 90% of the people out there.

Have fun living in "the greatest city in the world" with a checking account near zero, a metrocard and a pack of big red Brehs

Many need to move out to move back in. Trying to make it in nyc in your early to mid 20s is a HUGE waste of time.

Luckily none of my coli brehs have to deal with this problem as we all have that 100K+ salary with 2 months vacation :ahh:
