Those Penthouse Apt in LIC that I want probably costs 5,000 a month now :sadcam:

That's why I left up outta there after college...

Man I was thinking I could probably do REALLY good for myself back home (in the DMV) and actually live in an apartment/house instead of an efficiency in NYC...place is outta control when 3k is AVG...

:rudy:

Rent is probably 200 dollars more in NYC than in DMV, unless you live in SE DC

Every time I get serious abt thinking about moving to NYC. I back down, I don't know, at this point with my tastes I'd simply be hustling backward living there...or worse, I'd need a roommate....roommate after living alone? Nah

I live here with some of my best friends that I've known for years. When I first moved to NY, I lived pretty damn sketchy. I was going from sublet to sublet that I found on craigslist. I'm happy I live with people I know, cause not only does it make this place less lonely, but it's easier to connect with them rather than strangers who just want a warm body in their apartment because the last warm body moved out and they can't afford what they have now on their own.

The rental market is really difficult too. Landlords, realtors, etc....they want to see that you have a job, you have pay stubs, W2s, references, good credit, etc. I wouldn't of been able to find a place here on my own...but dammit, I hated Pittsburgh so much I would rather pay out the ass the live here than live cheaply on my own there. Life is sweet here.

NYC is a shythole. Beyond the fukking rent, there is the digusting subway, the rats and roaches everywhere, the homeless fukks begging around every street corner, and the filth and garbage on the streets.

I don't know why anyone would willingly go to live in NYC if they have other choices. If you want big city living, LA, Chicago, and SF are all much better choices.

I would like to visit Chicago, but I'm really turned off by the violence there.

How so?

When a foreigner dreams of living in America only New York comes to mind, not fukking Ohio or North Dakota.

NYC the only city in America where people who have nothing just move here just for the chance to make it at something

WRONG.

WRONG.

WRONG.

As a person who lives outside of the USA NYC has a reputation for TOURISM around the world people want to VISIT. We have never wanted to live in New York.

It has a reputation among foreigners for being a bit 'rough'. Trust me as someone who looks outside into the uSA and discusses this shyt with everyone I know. NYC ain't somwhere anyone wants to live. It's somewhere we prefer just to visit, just like Vegas.

I live in White Plains. 30 minute train ride into the city, without all of that stuff you mentioned.

Less expensive as well.

Metro North on the other hand...

Good post.

But would you live in Ohio or North Dakota? Cause I lived in Ohio for two years, and other than all of the friends I made and the fun times I had, I hated living there. The whole state is dumb, backwards, ignorant, and just every other bad descriptor term I can think of. I've never lived in North Dakota but I can imagine it's ten times worse than Ohio. Atleast Ohio has Cleveland, Cincinatti, and Colombus.

When I think of the "real" america (i.e. what America is really like), I think of places like North Dakota, Ohio, the midwest, and the south. Boarded up houses, hoods/ghettos, meth towns, farms, strip malls, "plans" with McMansions, plasticky and fake shopping malls enclosed in a fake suburban bubble with even faker people...basically the places that NO ONE wants to go to.

New York is the tourist hotspt of the world, but it is just a small piece of the American pie. New York is it's own thing. The rest of America is severely different.

That article reminds me why I've lived in Jersey the past year. But I am moving back at the end of the yea, and will end up paying 3K if I decide to live in Manhattan. Its hard to even wrap my head around. I could work in our Houston office and live like a king down here :ahh:

My co-worker just bought a 1.25 million dollar house downtown ...i think its like 1500 square feet :damn::damn:
