First off there is no way this guy was a hard core dealer. he's soft I can tell by looking in his eyes. Maybe he has a few friends into it or maybe he sold some powder on the side....

But from what I see he is a tall ass basketball playing rapper who got a scholarship to university and graduated with a 4.0, started rapping with DTP then reinvented himself as a 2chainz character. It worked for Rick Ross

2chainz is not a goon!

being a hustler isnt the same thing as being a goon/killer dude.

Reminds me of when Ross got exposed and fans started talking about his prison guard job was "just cover" to move weight.

:dead:
Yeah people always get confused in these threads. They argue 2 points at the same time:

1. Theres nothing wrong with being a CO (or a straight A student)
2. The rapper in question was probably still heavily involved in selling drugs becuz in my hood the law enforcement officers and valedictorians are always (ALWAYS) the biggest criminals and killers...

The first excuse is usually a good enough answer. The second is usually bullshyt.

But we never get to the real debate: "why is it necessary to hide the normal everyday shyt in a rappers past and exaggerate only the negative" is it possible in 2012 to be a successful rapper without falling back on all the typical rapper cliches drugs, money and hoes...

No we should act right for ourselves. Our educated celebrities should promote education and enlightenment, not guns hoes and drugs.

I don't hate 2chainz or any other rapper. I just think allot of them can do more with the voice they have in our community. And those that purposely dumb down and act as ignorant as possible are damaging to our community. In this case we have a highly educated guy doing this which makes it that much worse because he knows better, and he knows what it takes to find success.

dude dodesnt act in interviews tho... he comes off intelligent. thats just how he raps.

Because it's all about entertainment. Jay said it best. "I would spit it, if yall would buy it, that's good business."

It's like a movie, with fantastic stories of drug dealing and crime. That shyt sells. The problem isn't the artist, it's the fans. The artist isn't buying all his own albums, he makes a product that people enjoy enough to buy. And who really wants to hear about everyday normal shyt? Wasn't Asher Roth's whole shtick about being a college kid? He was a straight dud.

The world is supply and demand, and every body is demanding these fanatical stories from the ghettos. In any other scenario we would applaud this dude for taking advantage of the system.

and all of that phony shyt went right outta the window when yall let Ross off the hook. We are grown people listening to this music, you don't need a rapper to separate fiction from reality for you. You should know by now when a nikka is real and when he's full of shyt.

:shaq2: so why is it such a surprise that he's educated? He acts dresses and carries himself as a total idiot. Do you think he was runnin around in those goofy clothes and glasses hollerin "2CHAINZ" while he was studying and earning his degree?

Why not? People sell drugs at legit good paying jobs. WHo really thinks about getting caught at anything? Why did Bernie Madoff risk his stature to do what he did?

Madoff was involved in a multi-million dollar Ponzi-scheme. Madoff had much more to make off of his scheme than 2Chainz would selling drugs and Madoff was involved in white collar crimes, not a drug charge you're claiming 2chaniz was involved in. Unless your suggesting 2 Chainz was a drug lord on campus and still maintained a 4.0 GPA.... Why would he risk losing a chance to pretty much be at the top of every job applicaticant list by getting a record.

For one, dude's academic record is being exaggerated to great lengths...dude was on basketball scholarship at Alabama State...a lesser known HBCU, and not to shyt on the school or anything (got fam that go there)...that he ended up there means he was neither some extraordinary scholar or hooper...from what I know, he was only there for a year or two...i have no idea what actual grades he while there, but if he carried a 4.0 with some freshman hooper schedule at Alabama State i would not be shocked...but, also that's not "highly educated" by just even hip hop standards...and not something he's made any effort to hide, and has talked about for years

For second, dude doesn't come even come off some kind of stupid guy...every interview I've seen him do he seems like a pretty smart dude...he's not pulling any kind of "be stupid in front of the cameras" type act...seen him advocating for voting rights and shyt, not something you do if you're trying to feign stupidity..he just is who he is...

i wasnt surprised.

Whats more surprising is when these rappers drop knowledge in their raps and cant put coherent statements together in interviews

:stopitslime: so we should shyt on our own integrity and intelligence because someone is willing to pay us to make a fool out of ourselves. Foh wit that shyt. If more rappers came out telling the youth that they got all these cars, women, and jewelry from going to school and making sound life decisions, then more people would want to hear about it.
