Not sure why these teams keep giving guys these 8 - 13 year deals.

They gaming the luxury tax . At 13 years, Corera is getting paid 27 a year. If you give him a normal contact length, his aav ends up well past 35 a year and that hurts when it comes to the luxury tax.

Luxury tax by year 7 of these contracts will probably be like 270 (after the next cba).

It's the price of free agency :manny:.
Otherwise you're not getting those players.

I wonder from the player point of view would you rather have shorter deals or longer deals and which makes more money
I assume shorter deals would make dudes more money but since it’s so easy to fall off in baseball you would like the long term security

Basically the price of the brick went up :yeshrug:

Smarter teams like the Astros & rays don’t participate in this nonsense. 11-13 year contracts ain’t happening for them (without a discount) but other teams who don’t have the expertise to avoid these long term deals gonna take a mean L the last 3-5 years of em

Ah yes, 10 years $252M

Then got a new 10yr $275M deal with the Yankees after winning MVP in 2007.
:banderas:

So Pujols was the first to get a decade-long deal after A-Rod. Shyt is becoming the norm now with star players.
:whoo:

I think the Rays gave Evan Longoria a 10 year deal

Yankees gave Jeter a ten year deal in 2001, too, I believe.
