Congrats to USA bball, finally Pop gets his gold, mostly happy for Jrue Middleton and Booker, losing right after the Finals would've been BRUTAL. Some random thoughts :
- US really won thanks to KD, Jrue and Dray to a certain extent. And defense.
- The whole "iT waSN't EveN ouR beST teAm" talk needs to stop. When you win it's like "Oh we beat everyone without our best guys", when you lose it's like "Doesnt matter, we played without our best guys". No one's stopping the US from sending it's "best" team, and injuries are part of the game. It's basically the international version of asterisk NBA rings. Whoever you send, that's your team.
- France really dealt well with its transition post TP-Diaw-Turiaf etc era. Solid. Looking good for the future, only De Colo is up there in age iirc.
- Spain and Argentina are at the end of an era. At least Spain still has Ricky and Willy Hernangomez but that's about it. They're gonna have some tough years ahead imo.
- Slovenia is legit. Lost in the Luka magic is that they got a legit squad that was a Batum block away from being in the Gold game for their first ever Olympic appearance. Other Balkan countries need to step up. But Luka needs to stop bytching to refs.
- FIBA Patty Mills is must see TV
