Too liberal to the average person and what progressives actually believe is a bit different though. Not saying you're not right, but I bet you 100 bucks that the people being asked are thinking of culture issues like Trannies in bathrooms and CRT, regardless of the actual definition of it. They arent upset about Medicare for all or 15 min wage.

Yep.

Liberal, socialist, left, conservative, radical, progressive, etc. are just branding buzz words to people who don't know or follow politics or political theory and history for the most part. They generally have little if any association to their traditional definitions. You corner any of these people into defining why a particular figure fits that description and their brain malfunctions.

Take a look in some of the political threads in TLR to see this play out in real time. :francis:

That isn't the problem.

The ONLY solution is for Dems to be more competent when it comes to media (in particular social media).

As long as Republicans control the media narrative nothing is going to help, policy-wise or rhetoric-wise. There needs to be something to counter FOX News.

And to be honest, if education was the no 1 issue and voters went with Republicans, well... :francis:
depends what we mean by education :yeshrug:

if education = democrats bowing to the unions and letting teachers work from home, and democrats forcing kids to wear a mask (around fully vaxxed teachers :mindblown:), and democrats forcing kids to get vaccinated... of course people voted republican :dead:

because if you WANT to do all that shyt, mask up, homeschool, get your kid the shot, you're free to do so. but a ton of people DON'T want to be forced to do this stuff

the democrats haven't grasped the concept of choice vs coercion when it comes to this covid fascism, and it's obviously a disaster politically

anyone who thinks this man is a viable candidate to run a national campaign in 2024 is absolutely insane :dead:just a shocking level of denial

dems have to start finding a challenger for kamala in the primary

I do not know much about Dems outside the big names but who has a good platform or would be a viable candidate while not being 70+ ? :bryan:

I mean you’re doing the same thing - instead of being state specific you’re trying to draw general trends. You listed local matters and then gave a non specific answer. There’s never any one reason with local elections. When I say messaging and strategy - I’m not talking just national strategy - I mean locally. Northam passed a lot of popular things and then COVID hit and a lot of them suburban folks got mad about lockdowns and kids at home, etc. he got penalized for being responsible. Moreover, Terry was a known commodity and wasn’t seen as anything other than more of the same. NJ hadn’t elected a Democratic governor back to back in 40 years. None of that shyt falls at the feet of progressive ideas or voter apathy. That was always treacherous terrain. If anything, what progressives are always saying is that people are wildly inconsistent about anything aside from their own self-interest so put their direct, short-term interests on the ballot. I remember canvassing for Obama heard some racist dude annoyed that we were there say that he was going to vote for the black dude for the economy because McCain was old as shyt and had an idiot VP who couldn’t run a country. These fukkers have always been the same - just run a better campaign. And that also means not fighting battles you don’t need to. Obama dodged all that cultural war grievance shyt that Twitter liberals would have you believe is necessary and then got in office and co-signed same sex marriage and all that other shyt. But he never let it define his campaigns because then you’re playing into Republican hands. Democrats lean into fighting those battles because an economic issue based campaign is harder to sell to donors. I know - I’ve been there. Like seriously, tell me what Terry ran on? This was a record turnout - it wasn’t a case of people staying home - it was a case of the other side getting people who didn’t show up last time to show up - people you wouldn’t expect to show up. That’s what it takes to win a purple state.
I haven't said anything about progressives. This overly defensive take isn't warranted.

More people showed up in VA because of the changes that made voting more accessible

Alone among the states of the former Confederacy, Virginia has become a voting rights bastion, increasingly encouraging its citizens — especially people of color — to exercise their democratic rights. In the last 14 months, the state’s Democratic-controlled General Assembly and Mr. Northam have together repealed the state’s voter ID law, enacted 45 days of no-excuse absentee voting, made Election Day a state holiday and enacted automatic voter registration for anyone who receives a Virginia driver’s license.

Those changes just didn't end up working out as liberals thought. :manny:

It’s like the quote from the wire in reference to the police department and cooking the books vs actually policing; you can’t turn the ship(not no tiny ass boat either) around and expect immediate positive results. For the work and positive change to occur it takes time and people are too impatient and everyone doesn’t have the time to wait, many need positive results now.

It’s always one step forward, multiple back. The game been stacked against us for so long, you’d have to imagine that was part of the motive on decreasing attention spans over the last few decades and having people rely more and more on escapism. Then you’ve got other people who ain’t playing for the same stakes and those who have no doing in the game making the rules.

This shyt too depressing, I’ve really enjoyed my time here and seeing the different views of those with similar racial backgrounds to me(especially my Knick brehs :salute:) who want to make things better but I’m really considering pulling back from political discussion for my mental health. Since last night I’ve just got this quote in my head non stop.

I don’t think we truly understand how stupid the majority of people are. And we are at their whim.
it's why trumpism without trump is a winner :yeshrug:

i mean what is trumpism really, except a bunch of dumbed down, digestible catch phrases, that somehow the dems just can't or won't say :dead:it's political fast food

-america first
-low gas prices
-strong military
-no illegal immigrants
-there's men, and there's women. not 50 genders
-capitalism is good
-cut taxes
-freedom from mandates

from an objective standpoint, who doesnt that appeal to :dead:

now ask yourself if anyone on The Squad has ever said one of those talking points :laff:
