We're talking about a reality TV show host here. It's like you said, Trump thrives on attention.

Neither of these helps.

Caving to racist white people is unethical and they're still going to vote for Republicans regardless. But American voters don't care about policy, so that's not really going to help either in terms of votes.

Basically, what I'm trying to say is the situation is fundamentally hopeless so we might as well get used to it. :manny:

Yep. Vote, but don't count on it really working well. That's America for you.

The issue is most Americans are still not hurting. This is a huge impediment to any real change.

55% of the American populace live in the suburbs. These suburbs are overwhelmingly majority white. These people are still living a semblance of the so-called American dream. This results in two effects:

1) They do not support structural changes that would lead to a more just America because the current system still works for them.

2) They are not happy that the Democrats are focused on the needs of the black and brown urban poor which may be the right and humane thing to do but unpopular in suburbia because the vast majority of white suburbanites are racist small-minded, self-centered and greedy. Poor whites get riled up with culture wars like gun rights, immigration, CRT, BLM etc.
This is what @Pressure always says. He speaks facts as he is a black man in the south. It’s easy for me a black man in NYC to think this Republic is more progressive. But that’s me in my tri-state area bubble. Once you leave the NYC metro area the country is red and racist as fukk. But white folks will be the downfall of this nation. What doesn’t help is that the GQP is getting closer and closer to their fascist dream. So America will continue decline. Voter suppression, gerrymandering, the Senate, Supreme Court is leading to their ultimate goal. And when America goes through a REAL crisis white folks will look to a fascist right wing authoritarian to take the reign. For example like climate change. People have no idea how close we are to the race to the bottom. Social misinformation doesn’t help. Like @MyAccount this country is done done.
if only others could admit this :wow: them bubbles strong af :wow:

shoutout to @Pressure

Dems should have been grooming somebody already for the next elections. Joe Biden will be 81 in 2024 ffs, that's not good.
anyone who thinks this man is a viable candidate to run a national campaign in 2024 is absolutely insane :dead:just a shocking level of denial

dems have to start finding a challenger for kamala in the primary

You said this as if Democrats were promoting politics to help those people in VA and NJ. Those candidates were no different than they were the last times they ran. You guys got to stop pontificating with such a defeatist mentality. You basically said that there is no way to motivate people to vote the right way so it is what it is. That lets people off the hook for poor strategy and messaging. How was is that those same suburbs voted for Democrats 3 out of the last 4 presidential elections and the last two mid term elections? Use your head. It’s about messaging. These straw men you guys are putting up is getting tired. No one said America wasn’t racist.
Maybe I'm misremembering, but didn't Northam pass a slew of "popular" laws after his scandal.

Didn't we herald his efforts on gun control?

I wish y'all could decouple national and local politics.

Republicans were more enthusiastic because they've been losing. Dems and left leaning independents, like usual fly the mission accomplished flag after every hard fought election and give up gains.

Drop LGBT issues, ASAP :manny:
Black people aren't going anywhere...cut weight :manny:
There are only 45 million blacks and more than 70 million Hispanics. Black people are being left behind. Hispanics decide things in the general election.

LGBT stuff, we're stuck with that. Should have dropped at after Gay Marriage was decided.

Put politics aside, It’s scary how a person can decline so much in the span of 10 years.

My parents are entering their 70s.:lupe:

The filibuster is Chekhov's gun.

It’s been there the entire time just waiting for Dems to pick it up so they can inevitably be disarmed by an attacker and murdered with it.

They should leave it alone. The average voter is not punishing the Dems for failing to remove the filibuster. You cannot rule change your way out of a showdown with the white nationalist gatekeepers.

I mean you’re doing the same thing - instead of being state specific you’re trying to draw general trends. You listed local matters and then gave a non specific answer. There’s never any one reason with local elections. When I say messaging and strategy - I’m not talking just national strategy - I mean locally. Northam passed a lot of popular things and then COVID hit and a lot of them suburban folks got mad about lockdowns and kids at home, etc. he got penalized for being responsible. Moreover, Terry was a known commodity and wasn’t seen as anything other than more of the same. NJ hadn’t elected a Democratic governor back to back in 40 years. None of that shyt falls at the feet of progressive ideas or voter apathy. That was always treacherous terrain. If anything, what progressives are always saying is that people are wildly inconsistent about anything aside from their own self-interest so put their direct, short-term interests on the ballot. I remember canvassing for Obama heard some racist dude annoyed that we were there say that he was going to vote for the black dude for the economy because McCain was old as shyt and had an idiot VP who couldn’t run a country. These fukkers have always been the same - just run a better campaign. And that also means not fighting battles you don’t need to. Obama dodged all that cultural war grievance shyt that Twitter liberals would have you believe is necessary and then got in office and co-signed same sex marriage and all that other shyt. But he never let it define his campaigns because then you’re playing into Republican hands. Democrats lean into fighting those battles because an economic issue based campaign is harder to sell to donors. I know - I’ve been there. Like seriously, tell me what Terry ran on? This was a record turnout - it wasn’t a case of people staying home - it was a case of the other side getting people who didn’t show up last time to show up - people you wouldn’t expect to show up. That’s what it takes to win a purple state.
