Now, being a fan of a perennial playoff team that broke thru, can you reassure us Mets fans that winning is a process and taking your lumps in the playoffs builds character and helps in the future? What was Houston's turnover like over those years? I even recall at the beginning you guys had a great season followed up by a terrible one and then got going to the elite caliber team you now are.
I believe I deserve an apology from you man

No way we get Ohtani with DeGrom still on our roster. pretty sure We gotta pick one

Cohen has enough money for both and it's probably a moot point anyway since he repeatedly prefers the West Coast.

As for the Mets, deGrom and Diaz are must signs. Nimmo also needs a contract since I can't think of a better free agent center fielder than him.

Bassitt would be nice to bring back, but it needs to be for the right price. I'll overpay for deGoat and Diaz, but not Bassitt. Ottavino and Lugo can also get a contract. The rest of the free agents can kick rocks. I'm also not gotta say anything about other free agents, because other than judge I can't name another free agent right now

They broke out in ‘15. They called up Correa and McCullers. A couple outs away from beating the Royals and advancing to the ALCS.
‘16 they started off slow. Rangers kicked their ass that year.
‘17 is where it all started to click or bang :troll:

We been fortunate to have a decent farm to fill the holes when guys leave via free agency.
Our biggest depth is pitching.
Biggest needs would be relief pitching 1st base and OF bat. If JV leaves I don’t think they will replace him.

Too bad the wilpons let Wheeler get away. We should pay them back and steal Nola. I think he's a free agent soon

NY post is reporting that Wheeler was speaking on deGrom. Said Jake is happy with the Mets and just wants to be paid fairly.

If all that's standing between the Mets and the greatest Mets pitcher of our generation is money, pay the man. Give him anywhere between 45 and 50 and call it a day. This better not turn into Seaver 2.0

How many years?
I'm agnostic. Not mad if they don't sign him as long as they replace him and have a strong rotation.

Jake is 34 right now and will hit 35 during the season. I'll go at most 5 years and take him to 40. If he wants to pitch past 40, I'll deal with it later.

I also wanna replace Bassitt with Carlos rodon or if Nola hits free agency I'll target him.

What's 'fair' tho? We're talking about a guy, that while is dominant as can be.. hasn't even give us 30 starts since 2019.

12 starts in 2020
15 starts in 2021
11 starts in 2022

Do we really think he's gonna find the fountain of youth? If we're being honest.. I wouldn't go higher than the 30.5m he's due to make this upcoming year.

2020 doesn’t count, it was a 60 game season.

I think deGrom has 2 years left at an elite level, and he’ll also age gracefully because he has plus command on 4 pitches. Will it still be an overpay? Yes, but you do it to keep the guy you developed… the Mets don’t have a lot of those guys stay with them historically and “it’s only money”.
