That defense gets older every year. You wanna bring in or train a good QB to help elevate the team to take pressure off them and mask the team's flaws. I don't think Stafford is that guy, and the team doesn't have any real deep ball threats, Stafford is supposed to be good at throwing the long ball and yet I wouldn't trust Robert Woods and Cooper Kupp to go out there and get them. Bad fit for a mediocre QB and now if you fukk around and go 8-8 or 7-9 a few years there's no real reload.
There's generally a few Jalen Hurts, Lamar Jackson type players that have good college careers but have no buzz coming out of the draft that fall into the late first round or 2nd round and you disqualified yourself from getting one of those guys. And all the WRs you need to revamp the offense for Stafford will be long gone. Rams are just gonna have to hope Stafford plays football at a higher level than he's ever shown us for 3-4 years straight for a good return on investment and I don't see it happening. shyt was dumb.
Man, when you got 29 year old Donald and 26 year old Ramsey, you got about a 3-5 year window of your life being that much easier on defense. You can count on guaranteed pressure and you can count on either 1 side of a field being locked down or somebody's star WR being clamped. From there, you just need a few good men to do their damn job.
As for WR, yeah there's a drop off after Smith, Chase & Waddle in the draft, they could easily grab a Trevon Grimes though. 6'5, 215 running a 4.4 who developed nicely at FL. Or Terry from FLST. It's gonna be a couple sleepers in the draft aside from the big names. There always is.
And you're right about Stafford on deep balls. He had 7 tugs to 0 picks on deep throws compared to Goff's 2 tugs and 3 INTS. You ever think McVay was hiding Goff's deficiencies with the dump offs, screens, etc? I kno Cupp and Woods aren't exactly world beaters but they ain't bums either. Stafford's also led the league in game winning drives on multiple occasions. Goff's not giving you that and we know that's needed.
I'm not saying this move puts LAR in the SB or anything by any means, but I do feel like they're in a better position than before at the expense of capital that's overvalued at the end of the day. They have an owner who doesn't care about cap hits and all of that. Wheels could definitely fall off for sure but who wouldn't trade for basically 7-10 years of being in contention?
IT's an interesting experiment that's gonna be fun to watch from a non-fan perspective lol
