:yeshrug: the fatal flaw of all left leaning movements is that they care about the lives of the precarious and downtrodden. Republicans can afford to hold out and be ideologically pure because their base is wealthy suburbanites, big business, and poor people who fetishize personal responsibility. you can't stand on principle when people desperately need help.

I agree and said as much a couple days ago. Republicans play the game without thought to the lives of people. Can't win a fight against the other side who thinks of lives like that. Doesn't make it any less frustrating.

The more I hear about the bill the more laughable it get's. Nearly every provision Schumer touted I've seen sections basically nullifying. It's absurd.

I think the people who will vote 3rd party are Green Party people who always do that anyway. Few will write in Bernie. The biggest issue is turnout. Do young people look motivated to you? If they didn’t turnout for Bernie who they love, imagine Biden who they’re indifferent towards?

The bigger question is whether those suburban voters stay blue because that’ll probably decide the election. If they go back to Trump then he’s getting re-elected.

I agree, turnout in general (and how the suburbs lean) will likely determine the election.

But if young voters still aren't motivated to vote after four years of Trump (and weren't motivated to turnout for Bernie) then quite frankly I'm not sure anything will motivate them to vote. :yeshrug:

:hubie: I'm steering clear of this biden assault stuff until the dust settles. Powerful people in the public sphere like joe attract crazies but also sometimes get up to real demonic things.

Just by its nature its easier to get younger folks to turnout in a general. Turnout is technically up from 16 in the primaries in that group but it just happens that the older voters are turning out even more.

I think millennials and generation z aren’t the same people. Some of the people who voted for Bernie in 2016 are in their 30s now. Generation Z is on their damn phones and doesn’t take anything serious. That Trump shyt hasn’t affected a lot of them because they aren’t on the job market yet. Millennials are different. We have been in some sort of war since we were kids and were in college for a recession. We were mad as shyt in 2016. In 2020, there seems to be a fukk it kind of vibe.

:dead: all the progressive populism of Sanders and Warren going completely out the Window when it's time to actually wield power. Both are full of shyt.

"Billionaire's shouldn't exist" *Hands over trillions of dollars so Billionaires can continue to exist*

"Big structural change" *votes in favor of changing nothing and possibly creating even more lopsided inequality"

But Warren tweeted nice things and did you see Sanders speech about a provision that only 4 republicans had an issue with on a bill that required 60 votes. Graham and those fucck boys were always going to vote for the bill but even if they didn't it didn't matter....but but but did you see Bernie's speech?

Warren's always talking about corporations this and corporations that but folded like a lawnchair when it came to actually wielding power.

Populism really is politics for dummies. Say some cute shyt that you don't really mean to get votes only to get exposed later on like clockwork. I don't want to hear shyt about those two when it comes to the progressive movement. At least you know what your getting with Biden. I'm sick of these populist shoveling shyt in my face and telling me it's caviar.
Yeah, it's weird that Senate Dems, the people in minority who can only filibuster or not vote, have to compromise because the other side, the one with actual power, is a corporate death cult that routinely tries to gut the country's social safety.

It's almost like Senate Dems aren't in power and we're in a national emergency.

It's an interesting concept. If they want to level the playing field I suppose they could play the same ideological game as Republicans.

If Dems started allowing people to die until Republicans began to act in good faith would it change anything?

You said this before, the people on this forum view politics the same way others view sports.

Grandstanding is exciting, while compromising - because you have little leverage - is boring. The consequences of these actions are irrelevant, how they make "you" feel is everything.
