Rockets pick up option on Mike D’Antoni

The Houston Rockets announced yesterday that they will be picking up the fourth-year option on head coach Mike D’Antoni’s contract, ensuring that he is now signed through the 2019-2020 season.

D’Antoni was hired before the start of the 2016-2017 season, and though the hiring was initially met with some skepticism from Rockets fans, he’s been a smashing success so far in Houston.

D’Antoni has racked up a 120-44 record in his two seasons with the Rockets, and his offensive philosophies have unlocked the mega-star potential in James Harden, who was just named this season’s Most Valuable Player.

D’Antoni himself won coach of the year honors last season, making him just the eighth coach in NBA history to win the honor with two different franchises. He also won it with the Phoenix Suns in 2005.

The Rockets have been among the best offensive teams in league history since D’Antoni’s arrival, and they were also finally among the league’s best defensive teams this season, in which Houston finished with a 65-17 record and the top overall seed in the NBA Playoffs.

I appreciated Trevor's contributions these last few years. He wanted that last big pay check and found a team willing to deliver.

Good for him.

I'm at peace with the CP3 deal.

PG13 is staying in OKC :ohhh:

We never had a serious chance of landing him (or Bron) but this now makes things interesting with what the Lakers do... which only concerns us because it was looking like they'd emerge as another pain in the ass alongside Golden State for us to combat. It now makes the Kawi situation and Bron's options that much more interesting.

That's a whole lot of money for CP3. Losing Ariza hurts too. I don't know where we can pick up talent to combat GS.

Rockets Rumors: Team is interested in trading for Wilson Chandler

After losing forward Trevor Ariza to the Suns, the Houston Rockets are interested in trading for Denver’s forward Wilson Chandler to add some depth at wing.

Trevor Ariza is gone and Daryl Morey and the Rockets are quickly moving on. The team has not re-signed Luc Mbah a Moute, so Houston is very thin at the small forward position. But maybe they won’t be for long.

According to Kelly Iko of the Rockets Wire, Houston’s front office has its eye on Wilson Chandler as a potential replacement for Ariza. The Rockets also targeted Chandler during the trade deadline, but the two teams couldn’t work out a deal.

According to Yahoo Sports’ Chris Mannix, the Nuggets are ‘aggressively pursuing’ LeBron James. After signing Nikola Jokic and Will Barton to sizable, long-term contracts, the Nuggets don’t have much cap room.

They could be looking to offload Wilson Chandler in an effort to make more room for LeBron. If Daryl Morey smells desperation on Denver’s side, the Rockets could walk away with a very good trade.

Last season, Chandler averaged 10.0 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. He also made 35.8 percent of his 3-point attempts, which is solid. At 31 years old, Chandler has played 10 seasons in the NBA and is a good veteran presence in the locker room. But he’s still young enough that he can contribute to any NBA team for a few years.

Wilson Chandler is one of those names that we're all aware of bc of that New York/Denver/Carmelo trade all those years ago, but i ain't been paying attention to him since (or ever), so is he still a good player? Injury prone?

Well at this point, i still want Ryan Anderson gone but idk for what or who.

Outside of retaining the obvious (Capela), we still need a 3rd ball handler/creator

I wouldn't mind another 3 & D wing to take up some of the slack left by Ariza and possibly Mbah a Moute. And hopefully Morey does realize a 3rd creator would help in case and injury pops up.
