we should be trying to approve our own award shows
black people don't watch the academy awards anyway
and we need way more quality material, let's be real we get like 2 or 3 good black films every 3 years
Breh that is the most broad statement ever. Did you survey every black person on the planet or in America to find out what they watch? Cause if so that's a lot of hard work so you should be commended
It's not about "we should have our own awards show" because we do. The point is if you're in that business you want to achieve the pinnacle and for a lot of them, that's the pinnacle. Ryan Coogler's favorite flick is A Prophet. It's not a movie with an all black cast or a black director. It's a French flick from 2009. I say that to illustrate he, like other actors and directors, have varied interest and love film. Not just black film but film period. And if you love film and that's your livelihood, you want to achieve a certain level of success and walk on stages your idols walked on. Doesn't matter what award ceremonies are out there, the oscars will always have a higher place in a lot of people's hearts when they start looking at their career objectives because of what it means to them.
And while packer hasn't produced the greatest flicks he's still a successful producer and he's right.
