Ok now that the college season is over here is a top 20 for 2016 draft. This will be the final one until the lottery. After that I'll try to do a top 30 with team needs included.
1. Ben Simmons
2. Brandon Ingram
3. Dragan Bender - can't wait to see how he does in work outs. May have a chance to challenge for the number one spot. Porzingis' success helps his stock. Has played a little more minutes recently, jump shot is much more consistent, although he struggles with the physicality of grown men (nh)
Much like Porzingis people prob don't realize how good of a shot blocker he is. Not as big as Kris but quicker and already a better passer. Kris was certainly more NBA ready but Bender is a couple years younger and has similar potential.
4. Jamal Murray - averaging 20 ppg in SEC play for a coach Cal team was really impressive for an 18 year old but I worry about his length/explosiveness. Anunoby really gave him problems. And Jamal is really good ball handler and unselfish passer but he is NOT a PG. I dunno where that came from.
5. Kris Dunn - disappointing end to the season, still commits alot of horrible turnovers. His length and athletic ability should allow him to be a good defensive player but unless he goes to a team that gives him the ball on every play, he may struggle offensively. Similar to Winslow and Smart in that regard.
6. Buddy Hield - great tournament and I don't buy into his "poor" play against Villanova. They are great defensive team and had all eyes on him at all times, constant shading/strong side overload and faceguarding. He isn't gonna face that sort of stuff in the NBA. Should be able to contribute as at least a great shooter. I know he is a gym rat but he will be 23 in the start of next season so not sure how much Bette he will get but should be a nice 2nd/3rd option.
7. Jaylen Brown - not a great finish to the season but his ceiling is as high as anyone's in this draft. If he gets a consistent jumper watch out. May go higher as a lot of teams in the NBA nowadays feel like they can teach guys how to shoot as long as the player has the natural talent and right work ethic and attitude. I don't necessarily agree, not everyone is Kawhi, but there is some truth to that.
8. Jakob Poelt - will be interesting to see how he fits in today's NBA but he keeps improving and should be mobile enough to keep up.
9. Deyonta Davis - as I rewatched some Mich St games he really impressed me. Clearly has big time rim protector/small ball center potential and will be excellent rim running in small ball pick n roll. He is much stronger than he looks and has a great motor.
10. Domantas Sabonis - big time showing in the tournament, even with the loss to Syracuse. Was a little up and down earlier in the year but should be able to carve out a niche. Reminds me a little of Ed Davis w/o the shot blocking and I love Ed.
11. Denzel Valentine - I'm still a big fan but I hadn't realized how poor his defense is until rewatchin some Mich st games this week. I'd read several places that he is a good defender and of course the Danny Green comparison implies great defensive ability. From what I saw that couldn't be farther from the truth. I think outside of physique, complexion and prolific three point shooting those 2 have nothing in common actually. Green is a much better defender and athlete, while Valentine is a far superior passer and ball handler.
12. Furkan Korkmaz - I'm not sure why his stock is falling a bit on the draft sites. He has played a total of just 9 minutes in his last 3 games but he hasn't gotten PT all year. He plays on the team with the best record in the really tough Turkish League and he is still only 18, one of the 5 youngest prospects in this draft. However he is shooting close to 50% on threes this year with about 90 attempts so far and has shown in the past to be a capable play maker and very good athlete by European standards. He won the Turkish dunk contest, though more due to showmanship (he dressed as Darth Vader) than athletic ability. I've heard nothing but good things about his intangibles either.
13. Ivan Rabb
14. Brice Johnson - I think Johnson is easily better than Rabb right now and is probably one of the best players in this draft rn but I worry that the improvement he has shown this season is simply a product of age and experience. I think he is pretty close to his ceiling already and will prob be a solid NBA contributor but not much more
15. Thomas Bryant - not sure if he is entering. I hope he comes back so him and Anunoby can dominate the Big 10. Hopefully Troy Williams leaves and James Blackmon plays at least a little D and I'm a Hoosier fan next year.
16. Diamond Stone - that incident with the thot has me disappointed a bit so I had to drop him a few spots. Plus he completely didn't show up for the tourney. Needs to be more alot more assettive with his size and skills.
17. Timothe Luwawu - I made a post about him earlier in the thread. Is really helping his value this year. Lead his team to the finals in the Adriatic league. Someone made the Thabo comparison which I like but from what I gather Luwawu will l probably be a more consistent shooter but not as good defensively.
18. Chinanu Onuaku - not sure he is entering but I don't understand why he doesn't get more hype on the mocks. He is younger than alot of freshmen and is already as dominant as it gets defensively at the college level. He makes a lot of boneheaded plays but I think that will decrease as he matures. Plus he shoots his FTs underhand, we need someone in the NBA who does that.
19. Mikal Bridges - I would've had OG Anunoby here but he said he is coming back for one more year
Which I think is the right decision. I doubt Bridges is entering either but he hasn't said he isn't, so I wanted to shine a light on his play a bit. He is just a dangerous of a defender as OG and has similar length and athletic ability. His shooting is inconsistent but most young guys have that issue. I think he can certainly be a lottery player down the line if he improves his perimeter skills enough.
20. Ante Zizic - I've said before this is a weaker draft I think it actually looks a little better now than it did before the year started. Guys like Valentine and Hield emerging. Still it was tough coming up with 20 good prospects, especially looking at the college players at this point of the Big board. So i decided to put a Euro on here, but even than I think guys like Jeanne and Zubac wait another year so I put Zizic. He has been getting scouted for a while now and is a pretty solid center in Europe already at a young age. I'm not super high on him but at this point he'd probably be the best choice.
