Well I guess the Lakers are fncked either way if they pick Okafor or Towns since Randle is such a horrible defender to you.

If the Lakers select Okafor, I'd rather see the two play together and the defensive scheme the Lakers use before I give up on them on the defensive end. I'd rather have Towns because of the fit and defensive potential no doubt but I'm not going speak in definites on two 19 year old prospects who haven't played a game in the NBA yet....that's all.

Okafor is going to be great on offense, but he's going to be like Boogie on defense where you need to have a defensive PF next to him. With Parker being played at the 4, you'd have a terrible frontcourt defensively with him and Okafor.

The Kings are looking to draft Willey Cauley-Stein to play next to Boogie, that will eventually be what the Lakers will need to do. If it's a matter of choosing between Randle and Okafor, just bring Randle off the bench. Yall can keep saying the Kings are poorly run, but I've been shytting on them since day 1 for not getting a defensive PF next to Boogie, and now they're finally trying to do that.

Neither will come within 1000 feet of Favors on defense, how exactly do they have more defensive potential when a lot of the knocks on Okafor defensively are the same as Kanter? Their potential as a defensive unit isn't very high, and the Lakers will look for alternatives to help protect Okafor on defense, just like the Kings are doing right this very second with Cousins.

A lot of the knocks doesn't mean it's the same situation. Okafor already has potential based on the fact that analytics say that he's a better help defender than Towns.

If your frontcourt is Randle/Okafor for a full season yall are going to be near the bottom of the league defensively And there's not much room for improvement because -

1. Neither one of them are elite athletes
2. Neither one of them are abnormally tall/long for their positions
3. Neither one of them were known as defenders prior to the NBA

If you can't get with that I don't know what to tell you bruh.

This is a very real concern, but its ok. For several years the Lakers did not have any young talent to build around. Now they will, and this helps make them a FA destination and lets the front office have a direction to improve upon. By January if its apparent that Randle and Okafor isn't working, we can tinker with it.

We can revisit this subject in a year or two. It's not a terrible problem to have for a team like the Lakers. They aren't always depending on the draft like small market teams......

They'll both be rookies so I wonder if B Scott is going to throw them into fire and let them cook. Like Malta said they won't be a great or even good defensive unit but both are 19/20...so there's room for improvement. The question is will Scott/Mitch/Kobe be patient enough??
