Deron Williams will be a free agent on Sunday, officially, because GM Billy King because he didn't opt into the final year of his contract by the deadline. Sooner rather than later, Mark Cuban will give Williams a call. But King said he isn't concerned. "Because that's the process, that Mark Cuban will call him. End of day, he's going to play here or he's going to play some place else. I think we've done everything, prepared everything. He's got a great building. So everything is mapped out. He sees what we have. He sees what they have. And he's got to make a decision. ...It doesn't worry me, because we're prepared. We've done our work and the ultimate goal is to have him playing, opening the Barclays Center next season. And we haven't wavered on that, but he's got to make the decision that's best for him and his family."

The speculation over just how badly the Toronto Raptors wants to add Steve Nash to the mix should be just about over, with Raptors GM Bryan Colangelo telling the media today that he plans to use the amnesty clause to get point guard Jose Calderon off the books, according to HOOPSWORLD’s Stephen Brotherston. Colangelo indicated that Calderon is a professional, and understands how the business side of the game works, indicating he won’t be a part of the team going forward. Colangelo stopped short of mentioning free agent (Canadian) point guard Steve Nash, but it’s clear he is their top free agent target as the NBA prepares for free agency period to commence. The team will also be pursuing a small forward, according to Colangelo. The assumption is that amnestying Calderon is a means to an end. If the Raptors can’t get Nash, Calderon could stay.

The Rockets extended a $4.3 million qualifying offer to guard Courtney Lee on Friday, assuring that he will be a restricted free agent to allow the Rockets to match any offer sheet he receives, a person with knowledge of the move said. The team will also begin the process to sign last season’s first round pick Donatas Motiejunas first thing on Sunday, the first day they may begin working to sign him. Motiejunas must first complete the paperwork on his buyout in Europe then receive FIBA clearance from his previous team before he can sign with the Rockets. The process is expected to take no longer than five days, allowing him to report to the start of summer league training camp July 8.

Andre Iguodala is downplaying the sale of his home in Philadelphia. He says hasn't lived there in years. So, coincidence? Yes.
