20% of Current NBA Players are 30+, down from 35% in 2001.

Been saying this for years. That's why it's not surprising or anything special to have young players come in and dominate directly in their early years. Used to be an exception, not it's the rule. And it makes sense, they're all playing against players in the same age bracket so things such as experience etc has become mostly irrelevant. Tons of NBA games are between players that would be NCAA juinors or seniors. You also see in the playoffs, seems that you have less of those "young up and coming team vs veteran team" series now.

thats wild, I used think Rubio was taller than he is. Thanks for correcting me.

Rubio plays a lot bigger. Probably because he has a 6'9" wingspan. Hurley's was 6'3"

Rubio has 30 lbs on Hurley too, 2 inches in height and 6 inches in wingspan.

Comparing Rubio to Hurley makes no sense.

Rubio is basically Jason Kidd but 2 inches smaller. If Rubio had 2 more inches of height he would be a Superstar.

League is getting filled with 20 year olds, with teenaged bodied who don’t know the game. There’s a reason championships are an old man’s game. We’re loosing recipes

Half of them players are 2000s players. Odom, Brand, Kobe, Rip, Dirk an em weren't doing shyt in the 90s. MJ wasn't facing those players for titles.

If someone said that LeBron dominated the 2010s (8 finals appearances) and listed these players as 2010s players, you would be the first to throw a tantrum.

But go back and look at the drafts. 3 of the players on your list came straight out of high school. Shaq could’ve come out after his sophomore year. Most of the 90’s drafts were doo doo. TMac and Kobe were drafted low. Bobby Hurley was picked 7th the year he came out.

The way GM’s evaluated talent was different. Everything revolved around the front court. To put the lack of talent into perspective, Charlie Ward was drafted in the first round and basketball wasn’t even his first choice.

Most players stayed longer in college because the NCAA’s meant more, the players were treated like rock stars and a lot of them knew they weren’t good enough anyway so why leave early.
How is Charlie Ward an example of a lack of talent in the NBA at the time :what:

Lack of expansion is a big reason for this. In the 1990s/early 2000s, a ton of old players who weren't that good kept playing because the league needed to fill out rosters with all the expansion teams they'd added between 1989 and 2001. Now it's been over 20 years without an expansion and you can see the entire league is saturated with talent.

Look at the age trends - they EXACTLY follow when the expansion era started and ended.

A lot of those old guys in the 90s were there because the league was low in talent, not because of 3 and 4 year college players.

Rick Mahorn
Antoine Carr
Charles Oakley
Mario Elie
Sam Perkins
Kevin Willis
Chris Mullin

All of those players were playing into their late 30's even up to age 40. In today's game, they get the Andre Drummond/Isiah Thomas treatment at age 32. Even no-talent hack like Chris Dudley played into Age 38 in that era. :scusthov:

Exactly.

Meanwhile, right now Jahill Okafor, Kenneth Faried, Andre Roberson, Tony Snell, Trey Burke, Elfrid Payton, Rashad Vaughn, Emmanuel Mudiay, Justin Jackson, and Denzel Valentine are all playing in the G-League. Al Jefferson, Anthony Randolph, Tyler Hansborough, Randy Foye, Marreese Speights, Nemanja Bjelica, Greg Monroe, Dwight Howard are all playing overseas. Noel Nerlens, Willie Cauley-Stein, Meyers Leonard, Kris Dunn, Derrick Favors, Gorgui Dieng, Kris Dunn, DeMarcus Cousins, Danuel House, Bismack Biyombo, Lance Stephenson, Mario Chalmers, Nik Stauskas, and Jordan Bell were forced to sign 10-day contracts. The bar to make it in the NBA is higher than its ever been.

If this was the old days, Roy Hibbert would still be in the NBA. He's 36 years old and hasn't played a game in 6 years. Guys like Hibbert, Monroe would had 18 year careers back in the 90s.

Look at a guy like Andre Drummond whose been considered washed up for years. And he isn't even 30 years old yet.

Charlie Ward's senior year in college he averaged 10ppg and 5apg, shooting 37% from the field and 25% from 3pt. It was his only season that he averaged double-digits. He was a good defender though.

Over time he developed into a capable shooter and a serviceable backup point guard. But a 6'2" player with that resume/skill set isn't getting drafted 1st round in today's NBA. If you're a 4-year college guy, you're 6'2" and you can't shoot, they ain't gonna even look at you.

SOUNDS LIKE TOP 5 DRAFT PICK RICKY RUBIO.

You're so bad at this. :snoop:

This is no planet on which Bobby Hurley and Ricky Rubio are comparable players.

Rubio is bigger, stronger, more athletic, better shooter, better scorer, better passer, better ballhandler, and a far better defender than Bobby Hurley ever was. He's literally superior at ever single aspect of playing basketball.

Bobby Hurley got drafted #7 because in the 1990s, having a 6'0" "game management" point guard who couldn't score or defend was a real role. There were players like that all over the league, even starting in many cases. No one could make it like that now.
