From what I read that's not the reason why the lawyer leaked it. The lawyer represents the neighbor who was involved in the incident. My understanding is that the lawyer release this in an attempt to publicly exonerate his client from the actual act of murder. It was for purely selfish reasons.
I admit I have not been following this case closely. There may be more accurate information about this.
These are the same people who started the disinformation campaign about that neo nazi murderer in Charleston. Acting like he was the victim.

And now comes the smear campaign and DISTORTING of facts starting with the CLAIM that he was 40 miles from his neighborhood and wearing timberland boots and carrying a hammer

Why did they feel so comfortable doing this? Was it more
a. some pieces of shyt who were emboldened by the rise of new right Trumpism trying to restore that old KKK feeling
or
b. a tradition that never really stopped in some of these small towns but has only been exposed due to the advent of the camera phone and social media?
There should be some kinda national-scale investigation akin to The Innocence Project looking into all suspicious police killings of black men throughout the last several decades.

The recusal letter from Barnhill is a good indication of what is to come from the defense team. Especially lines like "Arbery's mental health records and help explain his apparent aggressive nature and possible his possible thought pattern to attack an armed man." which laced with cism.
Unless more evidence or witnesses come out to speak on interaction before the shooting, I'm not feeling good about this one so far. I'm worried the McDonalds' racist and troubled history won't be enough to convince the judge and jury that Ahmaud had a legitimate reason to initiate the fight which was based on feeling threatened for his life. The other angle that could work for the prosecution team is disproving the "solid first-hand probable cause" that the two demons had to pursuit Ahmaud in the first place.
Aside from this, broken laws like open-carry and vigilante laws that are legal in Georgia need to be changed nationwide. Both of these laws leave the community vulnerable to white supremacists who are loaded and trigger happy.
