I guess the two groups of people they need to turn out are:

Minorities

Berniebro/potentially left leaning but politically indifferent whites

Exactly. They just need to work on turning minorities, young/educated white voters in the suburbs, and getting the Midwest solid (Michigan, Wisconsin, etc.).

Last thing they need to do is ignore their own base and waste time trying to win mythical working-class white voters that'll never vote for them anyway. All that does is depress Dem turnout.

Dems are in a better position nationally today than they were yesterday. With the House and governor pickups, we got a nice chunk of Trump country back. Republicans made 0 ground in states that Hillary won so they've reached their ceiling. I'm interested to see how we did in state legislations.

Even tho I hate cac mamba, he may be right about Biden/Beto being the best ticket in 2020. Combines establishment and progressives, we can get those Midwesterns back. We're halfway through this nightmare.

How do they increase turnout from say, blacks and Latinos, without making it look too obvious that they're pandering? Or maybe it's more about simply getting them to vote rather than the candidates talk about their positions in an attempt to draw minority vote. A presidential candidate can be as pro-immigration as they want, but it's not going to turn out massive waves of Latinos.

I was thinking a Manchin/Gillum ticket :troll:

Dems kicked ass in the PA House races. I had a feeling after the 2016 election that PA wasn't doomed

I feel like Pennsylvania/Wisconsin/Michigan might go back to being the Dem firewall in 2020.

All states Trump won in 2016 but where Dems did well last night. If that holds in 2020 then the map is a lot harder for Trump in 2020.

Still though, Florida. :beli:

Some of y’all need to focus on positive and progress instead of negatives and wht coulda been. Even with all the voter suppression the democrats won the house.

I think it's more along the lines of people in particular on the Democratic side have to let the candidates be the candidates the candidates in their respective states to let them win and not hold them to a purity test nationally

So is there any realistic way to recover the Senate in 2020? Because even if the Dems beat Trump at the presidency, they're going to get less than 5 Republican votes on any of their judicial picks. Under Obama, the only Repubs who voted for his SC picks are mostly gone, and for the most part have not been replaced by moderates.

I actually think a Biden Beto ticket would work. I mean Republicans would pick at Joe’s history of being touchy-feely but he would definitely carry the Midwest Rust Belt states while O’Rourke would get a big chunk of Texas And the Progressive state. At that time Democrats would have to really invest in turning out the minority vote whether it’s blocks, different Hispanics Asians etc.

I completely agree with you, but it seems like we tried that and it still wasn't good enough. Heitkamp and Donnelly were pro gun, centrist Dems and they still lost their states as incumbents, by a considerable amount. But then again Conor Lamb was reelected with ease.

We really don’t know what’s a good idea. The thought of running Trump a few years ago was hilarious and anybody would laugh at you but look at where were at right now. He’s taking over the republican party with fours and has made career politicians kiss the ring. That’s freaking crazy.

Yeah, once Trump got in, the Republican party became a place where "family values" and "God first" stopped being a thing. Like, deaded that old establishment of the George W Bush era and before that :heh:

He transformed it into an oversized bigoted political party that thrives only in the South. Like aomeone said, he already reached his ceiling on the support he's gonna get.
