This contract will hinder the Lakers from adding two max free agents but at the same time they couldn't let Kobe walk after all he has done for them.

Which two max free agents were the lakers likely to land this offseason and make them contenders? and by how much was kobe overpaid that stopped that from happening?

Kobe deserves it and he should get no less. He is a loyal player and has helped bring 5 championships to an A-list organization.

If you've been at your job for as many years, have out-performed the other employees there, have won achievement awards etc...and all of a sudden, your job suggests to you that in order for the company to be more successful (aka the corporate CEO's, Founder, President, VP etc. to make more money), you should consider a big pay cut so that they can make way to bring in another good employee from a different company...you're telling me you'd be okay with going from let's say $100K a year down to $60K?!

If you tell me you'd be okay with that and not look for another job where you can do what you love still and make the same money, then I'll be shocked.

There isn't any parallelism between a job that pays you regular salary compare to a professional athlete's contract. We are talking about an athlete that have been playing basketball for 17 season in the NBA in a physical sport that required physical attributes like athleticism, strength, and durability. Working in a office does not required you to jump and run for 48 minutes. With that said, the Lakers don't have any idea how Kobe is going to perform this season. Spending a huge sum of money on a veteran who has been athletically declined and going through a slow recovery from an injury is a high risk. The Lakers should have wait to see how Kobe going to perform before they carelessly dispose their lucrative cash into an old, high-mileage athlete's bank account.

Giving Kobe 20+ million a year, is going to stun the Laker's potential to get another all-star player and recruit supplemental role players. The Lakers are done. They don't have a chance to compete for a title in the following years until Kobe's new contract expire.

Your work performance is never guaranteed...you could also get hit by a car tomorrow and not be able to go to work for months.

Kobe will be fine and if he leaves, whether the Lakers are winning a ring or not, Staples Center is going to be emptier without him (unless they get a star player like LeBron)...and from a management perspective, if they're selling tickets and making money, they're good. Look at what happened with LeBron...Cavs fans came out to see him...the games were sold out, etc. so they never felt that they needed to spend additional money to get LeBron any kind of support. We might lose a few bandwagon fans, but we probably lost them already (since we haven't been playing all that well the last few years).

They should have waited, I can agree with this...but he has earned his money though.

congratulations, the entire coli gathered in here to laugh at how stupid and pathetic the lakers organization and its fanbase is
that means a lot coming from a Hawks fan. Whenever we go to that city it's like a second home game. And the only thing that is pathetic is "touch me teague me". fukk out this thread :camby:. this discussion is between fanbases that have at least one championship.

You dudes are confused in logic. This whole time you dudes have scoffed at the potential of LA bringing in 2 max contracts this upcoming summer. Kobe gets a new deal and all of a sudden Kobe is selfish for preventing LA from having the cap room to sign 2 max players, the same 2 max players yall made it seem close to impossible for LA to sign. You cant play both sides. And lets be real, Lakers weren't signing 2 max players this offseason. The only semi-realistic option was Carmelo Anthon which the Lakers can still get. Bron not winning rings with Kobe and lol at thought of Wade or Bosh getting a max contract. The Lakers can still sign Melo and re-sign Gasol this offseason (unless Pau refuses a pay cut which he shouldn't). However, instead of giving a max to Melo it might be a better look to just sign Luol Deng and another b-level player. Who gives a damn the FA class of 15, Love might reach an extension, etc...
