No shyt its not a good deal. They have to pay an aging, out of prime asset $80m over the next 3 years. But they really didn't have a choice.

Kobe will be gone eventually, but as of right now if he feels and tells everyone he can still contribute, fans won't let the Lakers org let Kobe go. He's going to go on his own terms.
You gotta make Kobe go prove he can get that contract...which he can't.

Kobe could probably get 2 year 35 at best...so even offering 2/40 would have started at a much more reasonable 18.5 or so. Still bad, but the current shyt is crazy.

Honestly i'm not mad as Kobe has made the Lakers BILLIONS. Let that man get paid, at this point he's just an overpaid mascot. Can't blame him for not wanting to take peanuts being a journey man ring chaser like those fukk nikkas in New Jersey...

Plus, my Rockets will have a much easier time claiming the West crown with LA fighting for the 8th seed with Phoenix every year....

you really think Kobe couldn't fetch a max salary on the open market? :dahell:

if Kobe let it be known he's leaving LA, you best believe every team with cap space would be offering him the max at this age....and those without the max would find ways to clear cap space to get him

he would be the biggest free agent prize since LeBron in 2010

cac.....you ain't foolin anyone

its slip ups like that.....that expose ya'll on this site

real black folk know that sort of word couldn't possibly come from a black person.....or at the very least a black person who has been raised by black folks......maybe your some mixed half cac half black co0n whose been raised by some racist cacs :yeshrug: that might explain why that cac phrase came so easily to you

either way just know that the words "race card" ain't a part of our vocabulary......its impossible for a real black man to think racism is just some card game.......unlike you cacs we gotta live thru it everyday
This nikka writing essays while I'm sitting back and laughing at all these clowns who think I'm white. :laff:

I dont understand the people bringing up Duncan. He was putting up 13 and 7 when he signed that deal. Ppp forget, no 34 year old put up the type of numbers Kobe did last year..its time we stop comparing him to Duncan and Garnett. Kobe is 2x the player and 10x the attraction those dudes are

Why not? Again I ask what was Kobe's leverage? These aren't the Bobcats.
Kobe could retire after this season, leaving the Lakers with huge amounts of cap space as everyone's contract besides Nash's expires. In a vacuum, that's fine. It's what the Lakers should do. Dump the aging superstar, rebuild for the future and use the draft and FA signings to try to create a new team around D'Antoni's system.

It's not realistic though, and everyone on every side knows that. Kobe has been pretty adamant that the Laker should "find a way" if they want to keep him. No one wants to see him retire considering the year he had last year, his star power, and his revenue generation. The fans want to see him back. Ownership has probably seen enough of him to make an assessment that he'll be productive for the duration of the contract.

No one wants a post-MJ Bulls or early 90's Lakers situation to happen all over again. They are buying time and riding the wave. As much as Kobe wants that 6th ring, I think they've come to mutual understanding that they'll just ride it out.

Rock and a hard place breh.

they actin like Kobe ain't drop 27/6/6 last year with highlight dunks, game winners, and multiple 40+ point games

Kobe at 34 last year did some unprecedented shyt

he deserves more money than what the Lakers just paid him

Then Duncan went and averaged 18 PPG and 10 rebounds last year with nearly 3 blocks. All NBA year at $11 million.

Lakers should have waited till summer to re-sign Kobe. It should be 2 years and $38 million at the max.
