Been doing this for a few years now. I was using 4 pound ankle weights but i've been told you shouldn't because it changes the way you step.

Your feet and ankles are the last place you want weight. Priopreception allows your ankles, the tendons and muscles around them to bend and flex to provide stability under any circumstance quickly.

Think about running or walking on a trail or through a forest. Your feet and ankles seamlessly transition from flat surface to rocky, to muddy, to slippery, to incline, to decline. All of these subtle movements require fast acting muscles.

Dancers, fighters, athletes are generally light on their feet. And you need to be too. When your 70 years old walking through your kitchen in your socks and slide on the floor, you're going to want your feet and ankles to be able to react as quick as they can to prevent you from falling and breaking your hip.
