the show was sh!tty. AJ and Free was when it was at its best.

when it appealed to 18-25 year olds and not 12-17 year olds.

that year where they got rid of all that real hip hop, killed them.

i'm glad its over since they (BET) basically killed real hip hop.
Think the show has always been pretty much always been aimed at teenagers...there was never any denying that it was a pretty by the books copy of the TRL format for the "urban crowd" from it's inception...B2K didn't get their careers essentially made by the show and Bow Wow didn't become "Mr. 106 and Park" by appealing to the post-college aged demographic

Are people mistaking 106 & Park for RapCity?

106 was never a Hip Hop or Rap show even when AJ and Free hosted. It was always a countdown show aimed at teens and young adults.

For better or worse it's combination of Teen Summit (every now and then they do things like AIDS Awareness and Voter Registration), Planet Groove (a lot of R&B videos are debuted and make the countdown on the show and there's R&B performances), and Rap City (the freestyles and the addition of the Backroom which is similar to the booth, the debuting of Rap videos and Rap videos making the countdown).

For better for for worse they mixed them all into one thing, and added the TRL style to it.

it appealed to 18-25 year olds first, check the audience in the first two seasons.
