All I know is that as a fan I've sat and watched us pass on big time free agents and then go through the motions:

Well, at least we still have the farm...
Well, at least we're not tied up in that big contract...
Well, at least we still have Eric Campbell and Ty Wigginton...

And then sit here and watch these players go elsewhere and win MVP's, go to the playoffs, win gold gloves, while we average 73 wins over the next 5 years.

Sitting on our hands hasn't worked for the Mets. Time to try something else, if that means spend big to get back in the playoffs then so be it.

I love how they aren't even bothering attaching prospects to get rid of McCann. That's a done deal just pay off the vast majority of the deal and keep your prospect since the money is hardly the issue.
