….
That's what I'm thinking.
Only Bolt has run sub 9.6
I think only like Bolt, Gay, Blake have run sub 9.7
Maybe like 12-15 people have run sub 9.8
9.5ish might be the limit
I think that's what helps boost the floor of talent in so many sports. We also have every technical advantage . Imagine 30 years ago a guy in timbuktu would have to prob videotape the olympics to see world class sprinting techniques etc.
Now you can just hop on YouTube
I wonder how low we can theoretically get the 100m record? Outside of a huge outlier in Bolt, the winning time for the 100m in the Olympics has consistently been around 9.8ish for 30+ years

A person might never be Usain Bolt for a variety of reasons, but you could learn things from studying his techniques or diet and probably boost your own performance.
People always think we have reached our limits on a variety of things.IN 50 years dudes will be running sub 9 second times and will laugh at 960 as tortoise speed...
Yup
I learned how to mod a xbox 360 because of youtube , you can learn so much and pause and slow down etc. stuff like this wasn't even available twenty years ago.
example
People always think we have reached our limits on a variety of things.
And then the limits are surpassed.
People thought the 4 minute mile was impossible.
The record for holding your breath is over 24 minutes!
I don't even know what the record for the bench press was in the old days but the record now is 1400 pounds.
If you said these feats were possible in the 1920s they'd put you in a looney bin.
Naturally? Good luck. With gene modification/cybernetics? Possibly but that might be closer to 100 years away, not 50.IN 50 years dudes will be running sub 9 second times and will laugh at 960 as tortoise speed...
They're not running sub-10 seconds naturally right now.Naturally? Good luck. With gene modification/cybernetics? Possibly but that might be closer to 100 years away, not 50.
For the record, only 200ish people have ever broken sub 10 second 100m. 10-second barrier - Wikipedia

No shyt, but there's a big difference between PEDs and gene modification and cyberneticsThey're not running sub-10 seconds naturally right now.
The way they started talking I legit expected it to be 3 seconds slower.
10.6 without padded tracks, proper shoes, etc is crazy
Only so much the human body can do honestly. I personally don't think we're going to be running at 35-40 mph.
I don't care what tech we have, physics is still a thing and human bodies are built the way they are. We'll never be a cheetah.
That said, the difference of .8 is enormous.
Last place ran 10.0, Bolt ran 9.69 so imagine this being 2.x as much between 2024 and 1924's Gold medalists:
A little dishonest of the person to say Lyles wouldn't have been a lopsided win back then.
