True, but really a lot of the areas mentioned on that list weren't what they are now until the black flight out of the city. These places took decades to get to where they are now.
That's pretty much what happened to most of the area. I think it's kind of shame myself being from around here.
Yeah Mitchellville look new compared to Ft. Washington, you can find old plantation properties in the backroads around here the Fort itself been around since the Civil War I think so some of the houses on some historic shyt. Everything around Upper Marlboro is some new shyt tho.
lol, all I remember of VA is when my moms lived off Glebe Rd in Arlington. I hated VA, but my brother got to experience the black VA before it was wiped out. Only minorities in NoVA now are Africans, Latinos, and Arabs. Black folk holding on for dear life in Old Town, how much you wanna bet they'd reunify Alexandria and D.C. once its enough whites in Washington.

You're spot on w/ that, Black people in NoVA have been either moved or assimilated and don't have a unique presence at all. I always thought that it was the weirdest thing, because there is a ton of history if you go back and do the research. I have a client (www.tinnerhill.org) that holds on to what they can in the area, but even that's diminishing.

The building on Glebe was cool, it was Dolley Madison right by 395 so shyt was luxury. My experience in VA sucked though cuz I was still a kid when I was out there. My brother older than me and he got fond memories of NoVA cuz he went out and did shyt. I had to do a research project about Historically Black Alexandria for AA history class back in college so I was pretty surprised to find out about that stuff, hell I hadn't even noticed all the black folks still off route 1 its like they survived the generations till today n shyt.

I think that @2Quik4UHoes may remember this, or maybe not, but Arlington, VA was an exercise in gentrification, almost like an experiment, before DC. You had scattered pockets of black communities in Alexandria and Arlington (Green Valley being most popular in Arlington) but also a heavy hispanic population coming into the late 80's and 90's. Once the potential was realized for the area, that rent went up and redevelopment kicked it, that was it, the white washing of NoVA began.
With that being said, NoVA is rather culturally mixed, white dominant, however there is a cultural hodge podge in the Arlington, Alexandria and Falls Church areas.
I'm in Falls Church and I see this a lot.

But I'm not familiar with the area at all so I didn't even know it was like that. When I came through I saw a lot of Africans and Arabs around though.

relax bro, it was an inside joke....it's not even the govt contracts, much of that money is old money. black history in md/dc is strong as fukk. a lot of it is new too, this area just breeds a go-getter mentality regardless of race tbh

That's Jericho by FedEx field and The Boulevard I had my high school graduation there. Yeah that place is big as shyt, Largo/Landover/Palmer Park/Seat Pleasant(KD hometown) kinda hood not on no Cap Heights/Suitland/Temple Hills/Oxon Hill shyt but it goes down. When I trained at Ray Leonard's gym I would be around that area a lot, it was all kinda nikkaz out there.
