Yeah dudes talking about him like the real HW champ has arrived and he is gonna clean up. I watched some of his stuff and didnt see anything really dynamic about him that would get him
Through a Wilder or Fury. Granted I’m a casual so maybe people see something I dont.

he is very skilled and tough...more than wilder for sure and little bit more than fury...the big thing is physically being able to hang at HW and take HW power..thats where takam comes in..hes a good barometer for that

Hearn: Usyk-Takam Not Done Yet; Not Sure It's Going To Take Place

By Jake Donovan

Oleksandr Usyk’s heavyweight debut continues to be a work in progress.

The 2018 Fighter of the Year and unbeaten former World cruiserweight champion is due to return to the ring this fall after recovering from a torn biceps injury earlier this year. It killed plans for the Ukrainian southpaw to test the heavyweight waters this past May, where he was due to face veteran heavyweight contender Carlos Takam on May 25 in Oxon Hill, Md.

It was believed that the matchup would be resurrected for a planned Oct. 12 DAZN show to take place at Wintrust Arena in Chicago, Ill., as reported by BoxingScene.com contributor Manouk Akopyan on Monday. However, Takam is no longer the frontrunner to land the slot, as the 38-year old Cameroon-born heavyweight recently signed a promotional contract with New York-based promotional outfit Star Boxing.

According to what is being said by the event promoter, there’s a chance Takam won’t land the fight at all.

"That fight’s not done yet. We were looking at it but he signed with Joe DeGuardia," promoter Eddie Hearn dismissively told IFL TV on Tuesday. “I’m not sure that fight is going to take place.”

Usyk (16-0, 12KOs) has not fought since an 8th round knockout win over Tony Bellew last November in Manchester, England. The bout capped a Fighter of the Year campaign where the 32-year old scored three road wins, twice in title unification bouts.

Included among the lot was his 12-round virtual shutout of previously unbeaten Murat Gassiev last July to win the World Boxing Super Series cruiserweight tournament and become the undisputed champ in the process. The win over Bellew marked the 6th defense of at least one cruiserweight title, and likely his last.

In moving up in weight, he exercised an option with the World Boxing Organization (WBO) where a “Super” champ moving up or down in weight can automatically claim the number one ranking and enforce a mandatory title fight. The move puts him directly in line to challenge for the heavyweight title (currently held by Andy Ruiz Jr., whom is reportedly locked in for a Dec. 7 rematch with former titlist Anthony Joshua), although he plans to take at least one optional fight before enforcing his position.

toughest fight i seen usyk in was in the amateurs, against the same guy who knocked out anthony joshua in the amateurs, mihai nistor. usyk was getting busted up and hurt by big shots. rough fight. usyk beat him, but had that been the pros, i dont know if he makes it to the distance.

he will...he signed with golden boy last month...so they are prepping it

before he was fighting in the world series of boxing which is pro styled bouts (no headgear) but they still maintain their amateur status...its kinda how cats like lomachenko made the transition from amateur to pro

For fighters in the former soviet bloc there's more money for them staying in the National program than there is in the pros. Unless they have a huge reputation and a big promoter comes calling, they'd be fighting in absolute squalor for YEARS hoping for a title shot. It doesn't make financial sense for a lot of them. He's gonna try for a medal again in 2020 and debut for Golden Boy after.

thats a good question. a lot of the best boxers in the world are the amateur boxers. im talking guys you never heard of and never will. promoters just wont pick them up. i guess its easy to build up a domestic prospect, you just let them beat up guys with a losing record on tv, and it looks good. the boxing fans run with it, but there were probably many amateur boxers that were more talented than that guy, and probably could have been built up into a prospect like that guy did. it just doesnt happen. maybe some guys names are harder to pronounce than others, maybe it just wouldnt look good, and they just stay underground forever. nistor though got picked up by a promoter recently, but a lot of guys never do.
